Hey Folks,
I recently setup a little NAS box (Intel Atom CPU, Gigabit networking etc.) Runs pretty well (ubuntu hardy, samba, mediatomb upnp server etc.) but I cant get it to work properly with my mediacenter running MediaPortal RC1.
Acessing the Network Shares (mapped as network drives) from windows works the way it should. Accessing the folders from Mediaportal is slighty slower, but not that much. Trying to play a dvd folder structure - impossible. Video playback stutters every 2-10 seconds (music playback works but browsing through the music is awfully slow, browsing pictures is also almost impossible). I don't think its the hardware itself since whatever is stored on the local disk runs like a charm (dvd folders, divx/avi).
Now here comes the key factor: the media center is not connected via cable link; I had to use wireless lan. To work around slow/crappy connections I bought 802.11n equipment - according to windows and my accesspoint the connection is set at 100-160Mbit which should more than enough for DVD playback. My NAS show outgoing traffic of ~450kb/sec during playback of a dvd.
My question is: does anybody know of possible problems with windows xp/mediaportal/network shares/wireless links etc. that could be the cause of my problems? The distance between the access point and the client is not that big - they're even on the same floor.
