Motherboard:Epia MII1200

Hope some one can help me on this problem. When I play back a DVD on MediaPortal, the playback is rather poor. It is as if the HW is too slow for the job. However if I playback same (or any) DVD in VLC the playback is just fine. I have tried to setup VLC as external player for MediaPortal - but without success. It is as if the hw decoding isn't supported when using MediaPortal.

I haven't been able to find any answer to this, so if any one know how to fix it :D

Cheers

Staach,
You can try to change video codec in the MP configuration for DVD. I had poor video performance as well and then found codec best fit for the job. Now I have DVD playback quality as good as live TV.
If none of the available codecs in your system improve the quality, you might need to install new ones.
Which video codecs are present in the option for you? By default in my system it was MPV which didn't work good for me as well.
If you can check which codec VLC uses, you can specify the same one for MP.

Fromaron, thx for your reply.
Well, as I noted I tried to set VLC as external player. I have tried to find out which codec the VLC uses, but was not sure where to look. Does any one know how I can find the codec used by VLC? MPV didn't work for my MB as well.

If you didn't check yet, you need to do it ASAP - check CPU usage while playing DVD using VLC only player and with MP. It might be the case when your hardware is not powerfull enough for the job.
As far as codec check, I think you can use graphedit program to connect to a remote graph, while playing VLC. This should show you all the information. I've done it long time ago and very briefly, so double check the procedure as I might don't remember everything correctly.
Hope it helps.

Well, I did take a quick look at cpu usage when playing the DVD in VLC.. As I remember it, it used some 40% while on MP it went skyhigh to 100%. This was the reason I thought the CLE266 wasn´t used for decoding MPEG-2 when using MP.
As soon as I get home from work to night, I will try the graphedit program.

Well, I am afraid CLE266 will not be good for MP at all. It's not powerfull enough and MP is more resource hungy, compare to just VLC.
