Dvd [video_ts} format has black screen (1 Viewer)

MediaPortal Version: mp rc2

Windows Version: vista 32
CPU Type: intel c2d
HDD: sata & usb

I have dvd in vobs [video_ts] and it plays when i select it in mp.
Recently, I upgraded storage with usb2.0 external and added that drive to the database.
Dvds in [video_ts] on the new drive show only black screen when I select it.
Dvds in [video_ts] on the existing drive works fine.

Does anyone know a fix to this problem?
Everything else works fine: .ts/.mkv/.wmv etc

I've the same problem running MediaPortal 1.0. Some DVDs (as VOBs in video_ts folder) play fine, some just show 0:00 and a black screen. The movies working/not working are on the same USB drive and all work when using e.g. VLC. Any hints what the reason can be? Using an ATI X1250 display adapter with the latest drivers.

This is a known limitation of Vista's DVD Navigator:
you can not play dvd files from external drives

A solution for this is to use the DVD Navigator (&codec) that comes with PowerDVD7
(note: PowerDVD8's one doesn't work)

There is also another solution for this problem, which is working fine for me:

- Go to Windows Control Panel
- Administrative Tools
- Computer Management
- Disk Management
- Right Click on the external HDD and go to "Change Drive Letter and Path"
- click at "add"
- choose "Mount to a folder"
- Define a folder at your primary internal HDD


Now the external HDD is mounted to that folder. Vista thinks now, that the movies are stored at the local HDD. Add this Folder in Mediaportal to your Movie Folder and all your movies will play fine!
If you unplug the external HDD the folder will simply be empty.

Thanks for your effort, but I'm running XP, not vista - sorry for not mentioning. furthermore, some movies from the external drive work, some don't. So I guess it has something to do with the codecs - is that possible?

but i suppose i can use the folder mounting technique for other purposes - good idea, never thought of that! thanks.

Update&bump:
For me the problem is due to broken IFO files. However, IFOEDIT fails to recreate working IFO files so I'm somehow stuck. VLC doesn't care about the IFO files - it simply plays the movies. Any idea how i can get MP to do this, too?
