Hi there,

I have been using media portal for a couple of years now as an interface to watch my media.

I am currently using an old (but powerful enough) laptop as a HTPC in my living room with MePo installed.

I just want to know if there is a way I can edit the Media Portal configuration, and therefor the config for my plugins too from a separate PC.

If it makes a difference I am using MePo 1.5 with the Avalon skin and the only plugins I use are MovingPictures and MP-TVSeries.
I access the movie and tv show files from my main PC over the windows network.

I hope there is a way for me to do this because it is not easy to do this from the laptop in my current setup.

    Hi

Way I do it, enable RDP on your laptop [lots of links where you can find how to make it possible - look up termserv.dll].

Once you have RDP enabled, on laptop create another account, and enable it for remote access - this will be your RDP management user.

RDP into laptop as management user. You now have full access to a desktop on the laptop, from here you can run the GUI, you can also access Moving Pictures & MP-TVseries GUI's from desktop without running MePo config - currently updating TVSeries while my son watching old Merlin episode in living room.

The GOTCHA - assuming you have laptop set to autostart MePo on boot, AFTER you have made changes to MePo itself, you must run 'msconfig' and deselect MediaPortal in Startup tab - your only tiring it off for the RDP user account, but if you don't, next time you RDP in, it will start a MediaPortal session in your RDP, and that can be a pain to get out of [as it probably will not start cleanly. What you can't do, is restart MePo in RDP for main screen.

Also, could look at VNC [I use tight VNC for , there are a range] - install VNC SERVER on laptop, VNC client on management system, and you have cloned access, what you see and what you do in VNC is same as doing it on the laptop.

Both work and both are used by various MePo bods around the world:)

    Cheers - JCMP.
