    Hi

I have several h264 .ts files from HDTV. They are from the music channel, and I have been spliting music videos and re-encoding them. The current method i have been using is to

    1. Re-encode the .ts file using handbrake into a mkv file
    Settings: Decomb = yes, 2 pass, h264 (x264), Avg Video bitrate = 1500kbps, Stereo AAC 160kbps
    2. Split the file using mkvmerge

Problem is that it takes about 20-30minutes to re-encode an hour long .ts file, when i only use about 5 minutes for the video.

Is it possible to split the .ts file prior to re-encoding, this would be a lot faster?
Is anyone currently spliting first the re-encoding later?

    Hi

I am cutting recordings on a regular basis before re-encoding (also with handbrake :) ).
At first I tried the VideoEditor in MediaPortal, but I was not quite happy with it.
Now I am using TVRedo TV Suite and I am very very satisfied with it.

    Unfortunately it is not free...

My main problem was the fact that I struggle to set start/end point on specific frame. But it is a long time ago. Did not retest recently but I also did not notice any work on it.

With TVRedo you can select on a frame level and it will also show the audio profile.
Example, you have a music video that starts with 2 seconds of black frames while the audio already started. This will be visible and you will thus know to include those black frame if you want all audio.

it would be cool if mediaportal could automatically re-encode the .ts recordings at night, since handbrake is free possible integration into a mediaportal process plugin would be cool.

I tried VideoRedo TVSuite, when i open h264 .ts recording i get the following error.
"H264/AVC Streams are not yet supported."

This is with latest trial version from the website.

That's a pity. I just assumed if it is working with my ancient analog recordings it will work with H264 as well. Sorry for sending you on the wrong track then.

np, according to the forums there is a beta version that you can apply for that can work with h264.
