    Hi,

    out of the blue MediaPortal doesnt start anymore.

    error.log says:

    2008-11-12 19:24:12.968750 [ERROR][MPMain]: MediaPortal: Unhandled exception occured
    2008-11-12 19:24:12.984375 [ERROR][MPMain]: Exception :confused:ystem.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Das Konfigurationssystem konnte nicht initialisiert werden. ---> System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Das Stammelement ist nicht vorhanden. (C:\Programme\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\MediaPortal.exe.config) ---> System.Xml.XmlException: Das Stammelement ist nicht vorhanden.
    bei System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e)

    And if i check mediaportal.exe.config, its just empty. Sure that it cant find those elements.

    In a backup i found the file contaning this:

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <configuration>
    <startup>
    <requiredRuntime version="v2.0.50727" />
    <supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727" />
    </startup>
    <runtime>
    <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
    <probing privatePath="plugins/windows" />
    </assemblyBinding>
    </runtime>
    <appSettings>
    <add key="version" value="1.0.0.0 RC1" />
    <add key="edtftp.log.level" value="ALL" />
    </appSettings>
    </configuration>

    Why can this file get corrupted? What process would ovveride it?

    Thnx.

    Sloty

    I just copied the old one, and it works again.
    I "write protected" it now, i hope this can help, and will not lead to other errors.

    Yesterday I had a BSOD and after that Mediaportal 1.0 didn't want to start anymore. I checked the logs and found out I had the same problem as you. mediaportal.exe.config is empty. I downloaded the file from this thread, the post of 'hwahrmann' to replace mine. After that is worked perfect again.

    I had exactly the same problem. Bluescreen, and afterwards MP didn't start.
    Also the problem with the Mediaportal.exe.config, was fixed by copying the above posted content.

    As far as I know, this file is not specific for Mediaportal, but a .NET kind of thing (Every .NET application has a applicationname.exe.config).
    Normally, the program shouldn't write to that file, only read it. Really strange that this file can get corrupted.

    I have also seen this problem a couple of times. In my case this has only happened after a power outage in my apartment. The most common case has been that the system has been in Hibernate while the power has gone.

    I'm not sure if this helps anyone to understand the behaviour better.

    I have just had this problem happen with v1.1.0 beta. I tried the v1.0 file everyone here used but it crashes MP after starting a movie. Does anyone have a v1.1.0 file they could post? Thanks!

    I confirm, after crash, some times .\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mediaportal.exe.config is empty.
    Loading that file from another post which is mentioned in this thread fixed the problem.
    But the file is for version 1.0.0.0 and I use 1.1.0.0, some one could post the 1.1.0.0 version of that file here. :D

    I second that request.

    I cannot get MP configured properly. It was working fine last week, had some trouble with my SATA cables coming loose in the last few days and today when I started MP it had wiped all my settings from the config. Music, Pictures and Video folders all empty in config, Music player not set and selecting one will not let me select a default sound device anyway. Subtitle and Language preference for videos was set to Belarusian for some reason and all extentions for music and videos had been cleared too.

    I uninstalled and reinstalled MP 1.1 BETA and still get the same problems plus the "Unhandled exception" error message, which mentions Daemon Tools (which I do not use or have installed on my system anyway.
