This might not be very usable feature to most, but in Finland I can not get a real movie genre in dvb data and therefore I can't color movies in EPG. There is a "movie/drama (general)" genre in finnish epg data but that colors every soap drama series also, so that isn't very usable.

Finnish tv channels usually use a word "elokuva" (that is "movie" in english) before movie names so in that way I could color every event that has a word "elokuva" and it would give me very accurate results. Currently I use "search TV guide" feature with a keyword "elokuva" to find movies in EPG.

If someone already knows a better way, please do let me know.

    I would love this, too.
The French EPG also gives bad genres for some shows, for example TV serie Dexter appears as a movie in the EPG - that would be great to be able to do override based on keyword, so for example to keep movies in a given color, then add "Dexter" to the list of series and therefore get it as a serie.
And to make things worse, the keyword could be in the description of the show as well (I have a lot of entries where the description start with "Série." but diplay as whatever the EPG genre is set to...)

    Isn't what you reported different?
You said the genre info is present in your guide data, but that MP is not using it.

Wel, it might be related in a way... Since xmltv only imports the first genre, if the EPG provider enters drama + serie for Dexter, only drama is picked up.
But drama is obviously mapped to movies, not to series...

So, if it is possible to map based on keywords in other fields than the genre provided by the EPG, as an override, we could "correct" this behaviour...

    Maybe in 1.4  ?

It is easy to fix this. Then the problem becomes the fact that MP only stores one genre per program.

To be honest I don't like this solution because I think it is possible that a description or title includes keywords that have been mapped to different genres. What happens then? :)

No, definitely not... and I'm not saying that to be mean. You'll find out why soon enough. ;)
I would say maybe in MP 1.5+...

    Hello mm1352000,

You are absolutely right that getting more genre imported by xmltv wouldn't change anything, since dropped in the db anyway.
But regarding the keywords in other fields, I'd say that will depend on how the user does the mapping. If we can use regexp, I think I could fix for all my "faulty" entries by adding "^Serie. *" to the list of Series...

Regarding 1.4, I'm impatient to know what you think of :) , but if it can be targeted for 1.5+, I will be more than happy to live with the wrong colours on some shows until that!

    Cheers,
    Félix

I now understand what mm was thinking about when talking about 1.4 :) - Let see if that will come in 1.5
