EPG Grabbing (1 Viewer)

I have come across some problems with EPG grabbing that means that scheduled programs do not get recorded as the EPG data is missing.

The problem appears to be that if I start the TV Server service and leave it alone it does not attempt to grab epg and after a week in this state the EPG data that had been captured 7 days ago has expired. If at anytime in the 7 day period I view a TV channel via MediaPortal when I close MediaPortal EPG grabbing occurs OK and at regular intervals.

So in summary if you view some TV after the TV Server service has started all is OK but it appears until some timeshifting has occurred EPG data collection is not activated.

The problem I have is that my computer sleeps daily waking up for recordings. The wakeup process restarts the TV Server service and thus EPG collection does not occur. I tried setting a daily 1 minute manual recording and leaving the computer running for 5 hours. The computer woke up, recorded OK, was idle for 5 hours but no EPG collection was attempted. It seems that recording does not activate EPG grabbing even though it performs timeshifting.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Hate to say this but you will get fuck all with those settings.

    Max timeout 15 mins.

Make sure under the TVServer config\TVChannels\TV EPG GRABBER you have all channels selected.

If you go into manual control and hit the refresh EPG, how quickly does it start grabbing, mine starts under 5 secs and fully populates in about 15 minutes.

To see this outside of MP, try using Aaron's https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...tus-icon-plugin-now-standalone-app-too-24773/ this will tell you from its systray icon what state your card is in, ie grabbing epg\recording (what show is recording when right clicked for status) just extract the files to a folder appropriately named ie TVServer Monitor (mines in my documents, but you could put it in the root of c: drive, copy a shortcut of the exe file to your start folder, this will then give you a visual indication of what TVService is doing.

    As above

Also if you have a weak signal on the two 64QAM MUX 'CH5 and ITV' then don't EPG grab from their channles as you may get corrupt entries.

    My settings attached.

OK maybe I am misunderstanding the settings.

What is the effect of having EPG grabbing enabled while timeshift/recording timeout 6 minutes
Does this mean that after 6 minutes timeshift/recording it will try and grab EPG or does it mean that it will grab EPG when timeshift/recording starts but will only look for 6 minutes?

Simalarly with EPG grabbing while idle - with a timeout of 15 minutes does this mean after 15 minutes idle it will grab EPG or it will grab EPG as soon as it is idle and will grab data for a maximum of 15 minutes?

Thanks for the clarification if you can provide some.

Manual refresh EPG starts almost instantly.

Using either mine or SciDoctor's settings, are you getting epg in about 15 mins showing up when you start MP (restart grabber deletes EPG info).

My understanding of the timeout, is the channel\mux you are getting info from, so if you are on a bbc transmitted mux you get all the bbc info, same itv, channel 4, five etc.

So setting a really high timeout, stops it from grabbing other muxes info, and also can overwrite\delete stuff that has already been updated on the mux that had at one time already got correct info.

    Hi fryrpc.

If you have enabled the i.e. timeshift epg grabber, the tv service starts collecting the data as soon as it tunes to a channel. The timeout values simply descriptes the time how long the data is collected. After the timeout (and not sooner) all collected data will be written to the database.

    Testing this evening

OK it appears that some EPG collection is taking place but the log files are all reset before I normally get to check them. TV.LOG goes back to 1kb and EPG.LOG disappears - I don't know why that is happening but this is what was leading me to think that no EPG collection was occurring - that along with no EPG data in that database after 7 days.

    At 18:02 I had a >200k TV.LOG and a >700kb EPG.LOG file. Now at 21:08 I have a 1kb TV.LOG and no EPG.LOG

Whilst I had an EPG.LOG I collected the following.

    SETTINGS
    =======
EPG Grab timeshift timeout 6 minutes
    EPG Idle timeout 15 minutes
    Refresh every 120 minutes

It looks like thr EPG grabbing during timeshift timeout of 6 minutes meant that 6 minutes after timeshift started EPG grabbing occurred - recording at 15:35 followed by timeshift epg grabbing at 15:41 and again recording at 16:05 led to timeshift epg grabbing at 16:11 - both 6 minutes later.
I am not sure EPG grabbing during idle is working as nothing happened between 16:11 and 17:43 - at 17:43 I arrived home and started TV Server configuration to access the log files directory - I clicked cancel to the TV Server configuration dialog but something seems to have activated EPG Idle collection.
