EPG on DVB-T. Why use XMLTV? (1 Viewer)

I have just moved from Windows MCE2005 with twin Nova-T 90002 DVB-T cards.

I have left my machine running and the EPG has slowly populated itself over the air. I see lots of fuss about XMLTV and have spent the last day or so trying to get channels mapped and XML files grabbed/post processed etc.

Q. What's the point of the XMLTV guide when the OTA guide actually looks ok? Does it have a much better program description or some other special information etc?

Q. The MCE 2005 EPG used to show when the show was originally aired (REALLY handy to see if the show was a repeat etc). Do any EPG sources do this?

OTA 7 days, WebEPG\xmltv 14 days in some, not all cases.

Have not seen anything consistant outside of mce.
