Hi,

I've just done a fresh installation of Media Portal and left it to record something overnight and then go into 'hibernate' mode, but I noticed a problem when resuming this morning.
The following error was displayed:

"This sample cannot be run in a desktop window with the current display settings.
Please change your desktop settings to a 16 or 32 bit display mode and re-run this sample.
Media Portal has to be closed."

When I click <OK> to close the message, Media Portal is at the stage "initialising DirectX" in the background.

Anyone have any idea why this is coming up?

It hasn't happened since, despite the machine going crazy and hibernating every few minutes...

Most likely display drivers weren't ready and DirectX doesn't work correctly right after hibernate on random basis.

Okay, so I'll wait to see if it happens again and how often, then if I can reproduce it, I'll raise it as a bug - if that's the correct process (?).

try to build in a short delay before MePo starts. Possible method:
- install MediaPortal Standby handler (find it in this forum)
- configure it: "stop MePo" on standby, "start MePo" on wakeup with a delay (10 sec)

I used this on Vista like this:
before standby:
- stop MePo
on wakeup:
- stop MePo (if mepo could not be closed before, just for sure)
- stop TV-Server, start TV-Server (to restart everything for stability)
- start MePo

Use a Windows 7 Aero Theme and a original Aero Wallpaper.
This will solve your problem.

Your hardware details would be good, or better still fill in system specs in user cp and enable them to be viewed

Could be the nvidia bug

Did you see under MP config\general, there's a setting for restarting MP on resume (nvidia stuttering playback), personally cannot use current drivers as they crash on load.
