EVR Under XP SP2 (2 Viewers)

EVR in XP is possible, but MS doesn't support it officially and it also disabled hardware acceleration so it's not adviced to be used in XP.

I have been just getting the blank screens as well when trying EVR in WinXP SP2. Apparently nvidia is going to add EVR support for WinXP within a couple of months. I am trying to get confirmation from the nvidia forums.

I don't suppose there are any reg hacks for nvidia cards?

Its not possible for even Nvidia to add complete support of EVR under XP as DXVA2 is not available in XP.

Bugger! I also read that DXVA2 is dependent on the multimedia scheduling service. So while you are using EVR, your network speed gets massacred? For people who use their machine for streaming or serving files as well as playback, that might be a bit of an inconvenience, yes?

I've switched to Vista for running MP but still don't use EVR. I found that in MP, with version .230 at least, & the ATI Catalyst 8.3 driver that it led to reduced video quality than VRM9.

I'll test again since now I'm running 1.0rc1 & Catalyst 8.4 drivers.

I managed to get rid of the blank video problems by installing Windows Media Player 11 AND .Net 3.5 (inlcudes 2.0 SP1 and 3.0 SP1).

But now I have a new issues under MP v1 RC1, on HD video I get a 'mirror' ie 50% of the picture, and the other 50% is a copy of the first 50%, so I can only see 50% of the video horizontally. I am using PowerDVD codecs with nVidia drivers.

SD video is fine (all video H.264).

Just wanted to report that what ljbade suggested above worked nicely for me. I installed .net 3.5, but what really made evr happen for me was to install Media Player 11. Before that I got blank screens during video playback.

Will have to try that then.
