I am thinking of purchasing the Onkyo 875 audio/video receiver. It has the ability to scale everything to 1080p and I've read the Reon scaler is a very good scaler. Is there anyway to configure MediaPortal to switch resolutions so it outputs the native resolution of the video, that way the receiver can do the scaling?

Nearly all of my video is x264 in the MKV container with resolutions varying from ~480p to 1080p.

Thanks!

I know that this thread is really old, but I'm having the same problem now. Can anyone provide information about this?

As far as I know the only way that is possible is by outputting an actual lower resolution to your display. You can't output 1920x1080, but letting the video upscaling done by your receiver. Lower resolutions will affect display quality, so that is not desirable either.

The only way is using some sort of plug-in that checks the resolution of the video, chooses one of the resolutions closest to it and then actually settings this resolution. As far as I know such a plug-in does not exist. But isn't your PC one of the best upscalers possible?

I think this depends on the driver. And it's not only the scaling but also the de-interlacing the could/would/should be done by my external scaler (which is concretely a Mitsubishi HC5500). And I think the de-interlacing is more critical than only the scaling.

But to be honest that's only speculation... Therefore I asked for more information...

As far as I know interlaced signal is not sent through HDMI with normal operation, that means that you have to change the resolution AND operation method (interlaced or de-interlaced). I don't even know if your scaler support interlaced signal over HDMI? Does it even support non-standard resolutions (usually 640x480, 1280x720 and 1920x1080), and if it does, does it allow de-interlaced signals on these non-standard resolutions?

I think you should consult the technical specifications of your hardware first to determine if it's even technically possible.
