I'll investigate when i have some spare time again
I’ve tried to address this (there’s a thread somewhere about this issue), especially when Latin characters are mixed with, say, Japanese kanji. Also, our GUIFonts have limitations regarding the character set, as defined in the font configuration.
But I got stuck somewhere around here... I don't remember anymore.

can someone make a very simple skinfile (f.e. remove everything unrelated of an existing file) with just one correcly rendering label and one with flickering? that way its probably easier for me to start poking around. (If that's not going to take an unreasonable time)

I've put together two simplified versions for you from my files above that you can use with DWHD! In the meantime, I've conducted some more tests of my own and discovered something amazing!
In the original DWHD files, we have different coordinates and width values for the RSS feed using the #infoservice.feed.titles property in BasicHome and for the image titles in mypics within the respective controls. In tests with my simplified files, I compared and swapped these values and found that the flickering of the scrolling text in a fadelabel control - given a specific font size - depends primarily on the x-coordinate! The further to the left the x-coordinate is, the more likely flickering occurs! I haven’t tested exactly when the flickering starts, but in the example, you can see it very clearly when the original x-coordinates switch between 45 and 115!
To test this in DWHD, it’s best to use the “Horizontal Text only” layout, which you can set via Settings > GUI > Skin > BasicHome Editor!
