Installed MP. Have AverTV USB TV (Hybrid Volar HX). MP seems to recognize this device.

However, when I attempt to scan for radio stations (analog FM) (not seeking TV at this point), I get the error message: "Please install a supported audio/video encoder for your software analog card".

??? This card works fine with Windows Media Center as well as with the AverTV software.

I don't yet know/understand enough about MP to know what to do next, even though it obviously wants something that is not installed.

TIA

Apologies. Tech info. Toshiba R830 laptop, running Win 7 Pro, 64 bit. Realtek audio. Model A827 for the AverTV.

    Hello!
Can you check if you have any audio encoder installed? (MediaPortal TVServer Config -> General -> Tab Software Encoders)
    See:

User @Achilleas also uses Analog FM Radio maybe he could help you too. Here is what he posted:
Problem is now SOLVED!!! Please mark this thread is [fixed]!

As it turns out, this was a DECODER problem! After changing the default ac3/mpeg audio decoder from LAV to any cyberlink or ffdshow audio decoder, analog radio plays perfectly without syncing problems :) Seems the tsreader fails to sync the audio with LAV audio decoder...

I hope this thread proves useful for future tv tuner "software encoder" users. Just use ATI mpeg audio encoder with any (other than LAV) ac3/mpeg audio decoder and enjoy analog radio :)

Thank you team mediaportal!!! Great media center, but please don't break compatibility with analog tuners in future releases :)

Thanks for the information. Indeed on the screen you mentioned, I do not have any installed encoders (see below).

    MP1.jpg

Clearly, my AverMedia device encoders are not listed... and are not even in the database. So, I downloaded the GraphEdit program. The next two images show all the AverMedia filters installed.

So... what's next? I don't see a specific AverMedia audio encoder... is it part of the MPEG encoder... the highlighted one? And if I don't use this encoder, I am not clear as to how I install one of the other "supported" encoders in the first image above.

    Again, thanks in advance.

I dont have any experience with encoders myself. :(
In your screenshot I see you have a MPEG video encoder. You say there is no MPEG audio encoder from AVerMedia?
There is a cyberlink audio encoder which comes with PDVD. You could install the PowerDVD test version or just download it and extract the CLAudEnc.ax from it and register it manually.

    EDIT:
I searched a bit more and found:

Support for the ATI AVIVO encoders has been added in MediaPortal 1.2.0 alpha. User testing has shown that the ATI encoders are more reliable and stable than some of the other encoders.
You can download the encoder package at no cost from here. Simply enter your system details and then download the AMD Media Codec Package (previously known as AVIVO) from the optional downloads tab.
Note: You might be able to install the package even if you don't own a Radeon HD video card.

So maybe it is best to use this. + it is free. :)
