Hi,
I hvae searched and not found an answer that works.
I'm running Win 7 64 bit. Stand alone PC. Fully updated.
I hvae tried at least 14/15 timesto install MP. Downloaded latest version, etc.
EVERY time I fail to connect to a database. I hvae tried installing SQL 2005, and the latest MYSQL. I have also tried unisnstalling and starting from scratch.
Simplly.. no matter what I try I cannot connect to a DB. I seem unable to do so even without MP.
To the best of my ability I hvae followed instructions for Windows firewall exceptions. (I run MIcrosft Securiuty essentials and Win Firewall no other anti virus)
Media Portal may be the best things sinced sliced bread..... but I am not getting to run it. (Maybe I ought to point out I hvae 4 TV cards/tuners so do want TV service.
FRankly I am exhausted by my efforts to make it work. I'm not at all sure it is actually an issue with MP, but where else do I turn
HELP

Please assume I do not know the basics.... hostname etc...

Thanks
Peter

AW: Failing to get startedDatabase problem

Hi,

I had this issue from MySql for a few times . All you have to do is to reply the MP Install from beginning.

It means if you get this Errormessage during Install -abort- and try it a second time. Now it works:D

Best Regards

Haraldpeter

Have you allowed SqlServer, TvServer to accept connections in Windows Firewall?
And Please submit Logs. That is probably no-one has bothered to help. As Logs are allways needed.

Re: AW: Failing to get startedDatabase problem

    Thank you for your replies.

Where are logs? I'm not mananging to install, so I presume I will have no logs?

So far as I am able to understand how this is done, I have 'allowed' windows firewall connections.
Regards re installing.... done that numerous times.

I get as far as TV server install. A pop up window asks for my password to connect to a DB. No matter what password I offer it fails, if I use SQL or MySQL it fails, even trying to run either of those two without reference to MP I cannot connect.

Basically I am unable to connect to any DB. Almost certainly something 'off' with my machine.
How do I 'allow' connections? Exactly please?

    Thanks
    Peter

default login "root", default password "MediaPortal". Have you tried to enter those data to db connection window?

    Hi, yes tried that. Nothing.

    Okay.

Did you have MS Sql server or MySql installed before you first tried to install MediaPortal?.
Are you able to use for example SQL server management studio, or MySql Query parser
to connect to database server locally?

They are free software and can be downloaded from microsoft or MySql site.

Oh, and Password is Case sensitive, so MediaPortal must be with capital M and P.

And yes you do have some logs, because Mp is allready installed if you are in phase
where tvsetup.exe asks credentials to Sql server.

Logs are in "program data\Team Mediaportal\MediaPortal" (win7 & vista) and TvServer folders.
Also In "program data\tvserver" there is Gentle.Config xml file. Id like to whats in it.

And in general level you should try to solve Sql server installation, that it works with
management studio, create user into sql server, grant that user access to Db's, Grant access to connect locally or remote
    whatever is your plan.

I'm not sure. Though I believ probably. In any case I have had it installed and unisytalled several times since trying to install MP.

I don't think I have any such software. So no.

They are free software and can be downloaded from microsoft or MySql site.
    I'll get them and try.

    Yes I know this.

Found them thanks. Appending to bottom of this post.

Logs are in "program data\Team Mediaportal\MediaPortal" (win7 & vista) and TvServer folders.
Also In "program data\tvserver" there is Gentle.Config xml file. Id like to whats in it.
I can't find that particular folder. Also I used search to find 'gentle.config' nothing found.
I HAVE heard of this file name. So whther it has been in instructions or on my screen at some time I'm not sure.

And in general level you should try to solve Sql server installation, that it works with
management studio, create user into sql server, grant that user access to Db's, Grant access to connect locally or remote

I did go down this nroute some days ago. Without success. Maybe lack of knowledge, or bad uninstalls messing things up. Perhaps my physical pain threshold that day was low. Pain distracts my concentration. (I'm in pain 24/7)

All of this is a question of effort in return for pay off. The effort of installing a program I simply want to use to watch TV. Versus the difficulty in making it work. For me effort equals physical pain. I have only so much 'effort' in me at any one time.
