Failing to play avi/xvid files (1 Viewer)

I've just installed MediaPortal 1.1 combined with Steamed MP and SAF. This is installed on a brand new pc with Windows XP SP3 on it. Unfortunately my first tests didn't succeed. I tried to view an avi test video (an episode of The Mentalist) with the XVID codec, but the only thing I saw were some strange blocks:

Gspot indicates that the codecs are installed and i can view the video in WMP11.
I really don't know where to start solving this problem and i really hope you can help me out.

Almost forgot; my second test with an mkv file did succeed !

What happens if you use the mpc-hc codec under video settings, or run the avi file through mkvmerge (google) which takes seconds, does it then work as a mkv.

Your graph shows ffdshow being used, but logs show nothing but haali media splitter connection !!!

Typical problem - update directx and GPU drivers.
