Aeon&Aeon menu generator FAQ

I felt the need for a FAQ after both myself and others answer a lot of the same questions over and over again in different threads. I can understand that is no easy task of starting to read throug 900 posts in the aeon thread to find your answer, so Ill try to gather them all here.

If your question isnt answered here, please post it in this thread and I/someone will try to answer it and if its relevant Ill add it to the FAQ.

Q: HELP! My basic home went black after I used the menu generator!

A: You probably did it wrong when you entered the folder images, you should ONLY type in "movies" for your movies, not "C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\skin\Aeon Wide\Media\Animations\movies". The same goes for all of course; weather, music, pictures..

Q: The menu dissappears when I move my mouse, what can I do?

A: There is no way to fix this with the way the menu is created right now.. Ive spent hours trying to figure it out, and so have many others.. :-/ The thing is that for this menu to function, when Y has focus, xYz is visible. When Z has focus, yZa is shown, then zAb. etc. When you move the mouse you remove focus from Z(or whatever) and the menu dissappears because its not suppose to be visible. When you regain focus on the menu, it resets to the default item.

You can make it look better tho:

This is the control for the default background, just replace that .png with your background of choice. Its right at the top when you open basichome.xml. Either overwrite the background.png with a new one, or change the <texture> to yourbackground.png (it would have to be located in the media folder).

This will ensure that when you move the mouse, only the menu dissappears, not the background.


If you would like a multiimage instead, replace the control above with this one:

My default menu item is movies, so thats the <imagepath> I use. If your default item is music, you should use <imagepath>music</imagepath> (just make sure you name it exactly as the folders in your media\animations folder, or you will mess things up.

Q: What xml files is what in the list in aeon menu generator?

TVSeries.xml = My TV-series
mypics.xml = my pictures
myweather.xml = my weather
myvideo.xml = my videos
mymusicsongs.xml = my music
movingpictures.xml = moving pictures
mytvhome.xml = TV
mytvhomeserver.xml = TV, with server

Q: How do i download from the skin svn?

A: You can use a program called "tortoise svn" to download from svn. Google for it.

Q: I need the skins format rules for MP-TVSeries

A: The formating rules should be included in the aeon wide 1.1 package available in the repository.

Q. How do I get the nice fonts as seen in the screens?

A. You need to install the font "Bell Gothic Bold BT" in the Windows Font folder. This font is for
free and can be downloaded from many websites. Unfortunately the download page of the skin
forgot the mention "BT" in in fontname, so don't be confused by this.

Q. I can only see a grey background screen at the start of MediaPortal.

A. Enable "start with basic home screen" in the generals tab in MediaPortal Configuration.

Q. Aeon v1.3 only shows a grey background in the "wheather" and "plugins" sections.

Hi Darre.
Please help,because I've lost two day reading posts with no success. When I first installed Aoen wide skin I saw only backdrop without items. After using Aeon editor, same thing. After pressing green button (WMC) on remote on the screen appear vertical choice of plugins and everything works OK. But the charm of the skin is horizontal (bar) version of Home screen.
I am sending you basichome.xml attached.

Your problem is your imagepath's, they are "<imagepath>C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\skin\Aeon Wide\Media\Animations\movies</imagepath>"

And they should be "<imagepath>movies</imagepath>"

When you use the editor make sure you only type in "movies"(and music, weather, etc) in the folder field, not the whole path as you have done.

Try this, I think it will fix it for you.

OK, here´s a question:

How can I keep track of the changed and new xml`s in the main thread ?

1) They all will be uploaded to svn at some point.
2) They will all be added to a new release after even longer time.
3) Outside the thread of choice you can click the "files" link between the thread name and the date. (sadly these files are sorted by name, not date.)
4) Final and best way of doing this is to just read the posts and download them manually :-/ This is very time consuming, but its the only way to make sure your aeon is up to date at all times.

In other words AFAIK not any great sollutions
