I had set up my system to use ffdshow to play all audio from MP. I loved the sound I got, I can't explain it, but its was way better then the ac3 filter.

Problem I ran into is it didn't work for all files. Seemed to be hit or miss for movies. Some dvd's worked, some didn't. Same with mkv's and .avi's. I ripped them all with the same machine, so I'm not sure why?

So my question is, is there a howto or post that shows how to set up ffdshow to be used for audio? (Using SPDIF)

Thanks!

One trick to force FFDShow audio decoder to be loaded is to add it in the TV/video/DVD 'post-processing' section in MP config, then change the FFDShow config to only allow one instance of FFDShow to be loaded (see attachment).

You might also need to enable FFDShow to handle 'uncompressed' audio formats - bottom of the 'codecs' config section - then even if another audio codec is used the output should go through FFDShow.

Thanks, ill give that a try. I thought I had all these codec/filters etc figured out. Man was I wrong!

I pass spdif to my receiver and ne of my biggest complaints is all audio coming from my computer shows up on my rx as DTS. So, when I watch a recorded tv show that is not dts, it only plays from my front 2 saround speakers.

    Any ideas on that? lol

You don't have one of the sound cards that has 'DTS Connect' or 'DTS Interactive' do you ? - this will (if it's enabled) encode everything that goes to the sound card into DTS format....

It's a good idea to fill out/show your system specs - see the link in my sig below.....

It's looks a fairly upmarket mobo, so it may have 'DTS Connect'.

I'm off on vacation in a few hours, so best of luck with sorting things out :)

I don't have those options anywhere.

Does ffdshow pass dts and ac3 to the receiver? Or does it work the same way as ac3filter?

    Have a good holiday!
