I have recently setup MP on my HTPC build and in terms of codecs, have only installed what was recommended in the wiki (FFDshow, Haali mediasplitter & Vobsub).
I have also installed AutoGK for conversion of files to XVid if needed (so the XVid codec is also installed).
When I play Divx files, I get a Divx watermark in the bottom right hand corner. I was wondering if there is a way to stop this from appearing. I have looked in the options for FFDshow, but was not able to find anything.
Having done a Google search, it appears as though this is a setting in Divx itself, however there is no Divx program group.
Is there a way this can be disabled, or do I need to install Divx to do it? I am trying to keep the PC from getting cluttered with codecs.

Thanks.

If you do not have Divx installed (and it thus isn't decoding the video) then its mostly "burned" into the video itself. This can happen if someone has their source video decoded by Divx (and gets the logo displayed) and whatever divx spits out is then encoded into a different format. I've had it on a few occasions with low quality stuff.

If that is the case, then there is nothing you can do really.

Thanks very much for the response Inker.

The watermark is definitely not burned into the source as it doesn't show on my other PC and didn't show prior to me reformatting and reinstalling everything once I got my HTPC hardware finalised.

On the prior build, I was using one of the K-Lite codec packs and the watermark didn't appear. When I got all my hardware, I though I would follow the wiki and install as few codecs as possible to save clutter and potential incompatibilities/clashes.
So, as stated in my original post, I only installed FFDshow, Haali mediasplitter & Vobsub. XVid was also installed as part of AutoGK.

I have had a look in the registry on my other PC that doesn't show the watermark and think I have found the key to change on my HTPC to stop the watermark from showing up. Overall it's no big deal as it's only there for ~10seconds before it fades out, I was just wondering why it started appearing...

I will let you know how it goes.

    Cheers.

Okay, found a matching reg key on my HTPC that was empty and so tried putting in the settings from my other PC.

Unfortunately, the watermark still appeared. Even after a reboot.

Looks as though if I want it gone, I'm going to have to install Divx and set the 'disable logo' option from within there

I just don't know how possibly it could appear if you don't have the divx decoder installed. FFDShow def. doesn't show it.

Are you positive it is FFDShow that does the decoding?

I can only assume it's FFDshow doing the decoding. Is there a way I can tell?

As a test I ended up installing DivX and checked the options (show logo was unticked by default) and the watermark no longer appears. All very weird...

So, the 'problem' has been solved, but I have no idea why it happened as it did in the first place

Go to the FFDShow options and make sure the tray icon is enabled. Then play a video (either in Windowed mode in MP or any other DS Player). If you see the tray iccon appear (make sure its the video icon and not the audio icon).

Thanks Inker, I will check it out.
I also now have the feeling that it may have something to do with the xvid codec installed when autogk was?? I have just this extra codec installed on another PC and it displayed the divx watermark. Again, I will test this out by uninstalling xvid(so there is just ffdshow) and see what happens.

There doesn't appear to be any icon in the system tray while playing so obviously FFDshow isn't what's decoding the video.
Must be something else that has slipped in...
I'll keep playing around or if I get energetic enough, do a complete rebuild and tidy a few other things up as well.

Thanks for all the help Inker.
