these are the log files i posted on another thread. i believe that when i installed mp1.2 i didnt do a fresh install. i just downloaded 1.2 and updated the plugins and skins

The log files show "MediaPortal v1.1.3.0", so clearly not the log files when you tried v1.2.x.

Try a fresh install, if you just rename your existing folders you can safeguard what you have working now and try v1.2.x out first. If you just do not at first put back your old stuff, but try it out, then you have a working setup. Then one at a time you start adding in your old stuff, that way when things stop working, you know the cultprit. Then asking for help is very easy.

So seeing that you are on Vista SP2, you do the following:

Open "C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\" and rename "MediaPortal" to "MediaPortal (Backup)"
Open "C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\" and rename "MediaPortal" to "MediaPortal (Backup)"

That secures your existing installation which you can always restore when needed.

Then download latest MediaPortal and install it. Then immediatly launch it and make sure it works/runs. Then close it, adjust MediaPortal configuration the way you want, adjust codec, etc. Close config, relaunch MediaPortal GUI and verify it works. It's extra work, but since you have issues it ensures that you know it did 'work', so if it then stops working at the very end, you know it's that last part you added, versus having no clue.

As for adding plugins/etc, use the "MediaPortal Extensions" shortcut on your desktop, which will ensure that all the plugins are v1.2.x compatible. Just make sure you first manually copy the old DB3 database files for some plugins into the database folder, such as for MP-TVSeries and MovingPictures (the only one you still need to use seperate installer for), so that the new plugin can update the old database and retain the setting.

Just do it one small step at a time, and keep track exactly on what point it goes wrong, the moment you do two+ things and it fails you will pull your hair trying to figure out what broke it.
