I've just got a new TV Server running on Windows 7 with a Windows 7 client. It was taking between 15 and 20 seconds to get into the TV menu from the main menu. I'd configured the firewall on the server to allow all connections to the SQLServer service and the SQLBrowser service. So, it was getting through okay.

I got a bit fed up with things being so slow to connect, so in desperation I just turned off the firewall on the server. Now it's less than a second to get in to the TV menu.

So, are there any other ports I should have opened up?

    Thanks.

Hmm.. i just bumped into the same question. Startup of MP is very slow (20 sec hang on TV) When turning the firewall of it is much faster (3 secs)

I think my "success" was down to the server already having been accessed. The time to get in to the TV section of MediaPortal has been 15-20 seconds recently. Turning off IPv6 on my server and clients has got that back down to a 1 second (or less). I've been having the problem during the first use of the day (or after so many hours in stand-by, not sure how many as I've not tried to narrow it down). Anyway, I turned off IPv6 last night and this morning I was in to the TV section with no delay at all.

    :D

It is exactly the same here, only the first time (so on startup of MP or resume from standby) it was slow.

well, yeah I saw the same here, I permanently disabled IPv6 and enabled (I disabled Firewall etc. befor, because of extreme long starting times) firewall, Tv starts up as fast as ever.
Also, and even better: My problems with "unable to start stream" etc. are gone!

thx, guys, sometimes it is the simple solution....

    cheers

Are you running multiseat? Is your tv-server "always-on" and is it the boot/resume problem on the client?

I have multiseat setup, and sometimes I also get the "unable to play streamxxx.ts" message. When it comes, it's always when my client resumes from sleep. Also Windows 7 all over the line.

    I'll try and disable IPv6 :)

EDIT: Did you disable it in Regedit? I found this way to do it:
    http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-ipv6-in-windows-7/

    Which should be permanent...

I am running multiseat, my server is always on and my clients had the problem on start or resume.
I did not disable it in the registry, just used the settings of my LAN connection. I will have to check if a reboot indeed reactivates it :)

^^ yes thats what I did, and yes I am running multiseat (see specs below), with the problems you mentioned, but also sometimes the "unable to start graph/stream" happend when switching channels not always directly after resume from standby.

[Edit] FYI: I also disabled IPv6 in my Router!
