Running MediaPortal for the first time I got msg:
Warning: Nothing will be rendered.
The reference rendering device was selected, but your
computer only has a reduced-functionality reference device
installed. Install the DirectX SDK to get the full
reference device.

Any clues guys?
Thanks in advance!
George

I have DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904). Is a newer one needed?
Also video drivers...where can I get them from? The ones currently installed are the ones for XP that were available online about a year ago.

Thanks for your speedy response anyway! :)

I havent managed to do the last suggestion yet as registration is needed, but I have now installed DirectX SDK and MP loads OK but it is extremly slow rendering the image like using the graphical menu (5-6 seconds for every menu move)
Does this give any hints?

Updated drivers from the link above. Nothing's changed really. In "dxdiag" from cmd it still says that "Direct3D functionality not available".

Something really wrong there, that card does work fine with DX and MP (used to have one).

    Check these:

To enable DirectX, you must first enable graphics acceleration. To do so follow the next steps:

Right click on the desktop and go to Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting.
Set the Hardware acceleration bar to Full.

Click Ok all the way out.
To activate Direct3D and DirectDraw (DirectX) follow the next steps:

Go to Start/Run and type "dxdiag".
    Click OK.
Click on the Display tab, then click on the Enable button for DirectDraw and Direct3d.

    Still not happy :)

In Hardware acceleration bar was already set to Full. Set to second last notch, apply, set to Full, apply and ok (just refresh if thats possible the settings)

In dxdiag>Display in the notes area I get the following.
    ___________________________
    No problems found.
DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.
    _______________________________

    DirectDraw:

DirectDraw Accelaration: Not Available, greyed out Disable Button, Test DirectDraw button: ENABLED and tests run OK

    Direct3D:

Direct3D Accelaration: Not Available, greyed out Disable Button, greyed out Test Direct3D button

    AGP Texture Acceleration:

AGP Texture Acceleration: Not Available, greyed out Disable Button,
