Hi, I was running MP svn 19311, all working great. I then updated to svn 19376, and suddenly I got really bad video quality. I tried re-installing ffdshow, using different codecs, but they all gave me the same low-quality video. All videos worked great in windows media player, using ffdshow as the codec. So I downgraded again to 19311, and it was fixed again. I didn't think much of it, thought it would be fixed.

So yesterday, I updated to RC2, and the low-quality-video-issue was back:( couldn't see that anybody else have had this problem on this forum, so I guess it is just me... anybody who knows what could be causing this?

Thanks

Try updating to latest FFDshow Tryouts, what video renderer are you using, graphics card\model\driver etc all may help give you a answer.

I am using a Geforce 8600 GT, latest drivers, latest ffdshow(27.07.2008), and as for a video renderer, I don't know what that is. an example maybe?

I think I may know where the problem might lie. With my 32" Panasonic 16:9 LCD screen, I couldn't get it to show everything, even at its native resolution. The picture seemed to be a little bigger than the screen, maybe 10 pixels or so, leaving some of the picture outside the tv itselft. So I had to change some settings in NVidia Control panel, "Resizing HDTV desktop" as they call it. Basically, it "shrinks" the desktop, so that it fits perfectly, but it somehow still uses the same resolution. May be some tuning function. Anyways, maybe some code in the newer versions of MediaPortal doesn't support that resizing function. I'll try and disable the resizing when I get home.

I was using ffdshow myself and found out that somewhere that the code was changed to stop ffdshow from being used as a codec. NOTE it can still be used for post processing though. This was for MPEG2 streams only and has something to do with dynamic pin changes in the streams .(don't ask me ??????) To check you could use a program like graphedit to see what codecs are being used when watching media.

it is definetly using ffdshow. I turned on the osd for ffdshow and it is now being displayed. I don't understand how this can be... How can Mediaportal cause ffdshow to give me a crappy quality? maybe theres something wrong with the post-prossessing. I'll turn it off and see...

Also, as for what I said earlier about the hdtv rezising... disabled it and still bad quality, so that is not the problem...

UPDATE: Yep, it's the postprossessing. Really wierd though, in other players who use ffdshow, the postprossessing works great, giving me a much better picture than the original video, but in newer media portal builds, with the same settings, the picture gets bad. Any other people who can get this problem?

UPDATE 2: I went over every setting in ffdshow, disabled everything, and the problem was solved. I then reenabled everything to the exact same settings I used earlier, and the problem was not there anymore... wierd... so this is probably a bug in ffdshow, caused by mediaportal, I don't know. anyway, its fixed:p
