hey, i've been testing it out to see what to problem is and its weird. Its only a few movies out of the 200+ i have on my pc that do it but when i play these particular movies, once they open they start to flicker and i cant watch them. I run them outside of media portal and its fine, they work no problem. So i loaded up virtualdub and tried converting a portion of the video to a new codec and im still getting the same problem. i converted from xvid video codec to ffds. gonna try divx but i imagine ill get the same problem. Any idea's?

MediaPortal has support for a framerate adjustment. Meaning it can adjust the frequency output from the videocard to your TV/Monitor to match the framerate of the video. This is handy for when you have a HDTV that supports 24Hz when you have a 24fps movie. However if your TV/Monitor does not support the 24Hz signal and you play a 24fps video with that setting enabled, then things go flickery.

So check those settings (can't remember where exactly), and adjust according to your specifications. Simply disable it completly otherwise to avoid issues.

PS: This also explains why re-encoding didn't solve your problem, because that usually doesn't adjust the framerate.

thanks for the reply. im using a my led tv as a monitor so maybe that might be doing it. I'm pretty sure virtualdub has the ability to change the framerate of videos but ill check out the mediaportal settings for what u suggested.
