    10) Not that I personally use it, but if someone I knew used MDAPI, would this work with 4TR Argus tuner and where would I find instructions as to where to put the appropriate files (please don't post specific instructions on this forum since it is not permitted)?
Be careful with this, because it can change your cam limit from "0" default, which then stops multiple recordings on the same transponder from happening, other that that, I have little knowledge about it.

Thanks Ray. I suppose since using multiple recordings from a single mux is mostly of use with DVB-T, this may not be the end of the world.

My main issue with the MP TV Service was the DVB-EPG grabbing issues (which seems to work very well under Argus), I feel a little but unfaithful by even considering using another back-end after so many years!

    Final post (I hope).

I am not currently able to tune to any Astra N channels with 4TR. Does anyone know if there is a new tuning file available anywhere?

    Thanks

    Well,

I have got it all working with the Argus tuner (except for Channel 4HD, which it just won't tune to, and the fact that my PC won't go into Standby)!

Overall, my experience is broadly negative (but I am not sure if it is the Argus Tuner, or the 4TR programme itself).

    Pros are as follows:

    - The Web Interface for scheduling programmes is just absolutely bloody marvellous!
    - The recording options and flexibility seem good.
    - I love the internet control (IMBot) idea, although I am yet to try it

Cons are as follows (from my personal experience).

    - The Argus tuner setup GUI is very difficult to use. I really found it difficult to use. This was from a combination of little things (like buttons not sensibly grouped to make regularly used options easy to select), to big things like the lack of automatically updating tuning data.
    - The forum has a few people who are keen to help, but the community does not seem anywhere as large and as active as MP.
    - The Argus tuner seems really quite flakey. I can't record an HD programme and watch it at the same time (in either single seat or client server).

I think I am going to revert back to my previously backed-up drive image and maybe I will try installing 4TR using MP TV Server as the tuner.

Good idea with the TVServer bit ;)

My cons were pretty similar to yours, also tvserver picks up off air channels, Argus does not and requires day\evening tuning :(

Was it just HD you could not watch live, or all as that works fine for me

My main like is I can say put "Sherlock" in to be recorded whenever with skip repeats, select all channels and it will record them all for me.

    Hi Ray

The problem channel was Channel 5 HD.... I mean, on my friends system....:D

He got the same view as the link you provided, but it just wouldn't hang. I think the Argus Tuner records in a slightly different format within the .TS file so that may have been part of the problem!

My old image is just restored now, so I am feeling somewhat relieved. I am going to replace my servers version of XP with Win 7 over Christmas, so I will probably try running 4TR with the MP TV Server (rather than Argus) when I have done that installation.

I don't know why I doubted MP??? Will I never learn, it does just work!

    Cheers

Does FTR need it, it can work out by naming if you have never recorded episode, A couple of months ago had 2 episodes fail due to electrical work down the road, pc restarted when power resumed, and the missed episodes were recorded yesterday, I'm happy with that, as such a backlog to watch anyway ;)

Know what you mean about backlog. Just too easy to record stuff with MP ;)

Maybe FTR doesn't need it but I'd rather just use MP. I've tried FTR a couple of times and given up I found it so confusing to setup.

I'm sure there's stuff that's not repeated where Freeview Playback would come in handy, to ensure that part of the programme isn't missed if the schedule is changed. Perhaps Series Link isn't necessary to only record first showings, I'm not sure if MP can handle that already. I think my main need is to be able to set MP to record say "Merlin" every Saturday and be sure that it will record the whole programme, regardless of what time it's broadcast, although being able to set it to record only the first showing (unless it's missed for whatever reason, in which case it should record the next available one) of each episode of a series would be cool as well.

Got it working now. So far so good. How do I import the tv channel logos though?
