I don't know how many classes, interfaces or how your API looks like. I can see a lot of integration points all over the place from the TVEngine and the scheduler.

There are no classes, there is only a service API, and I posted that a few days ago together with the source to my TVE3 plugin. Well, actually, there are entity classes (data containers) and I did not post these. I could post those as well to help complete the picture.

Don't get me wrong, I known your features are good, I respect and understand your architecture proposal, but it's something we can't change that easily, especially during a freeze and not knowing how much change we actually need. Without that, we don't know how much we can break in TVE3 for example.

As of now, TVE3Server structure is defined and new code should obey to it. Can it be improved? Probably, but it's how it is for V1. We are focusing on having it stable and reliable. You are more than welcome to help on it. :D

People keep coming back to this feature freeze. And I keep repeating myself in saying I fully understand that :)

I'm talking about a possible integration for after the freeze. It's not clear to me if there is the least bit of interest in following a sound architecture for MediaPortal/TVE3. People seem to be far more interesting in features, features, features, and a lot less in a stable product.

Not true. Our goal with the freeze is stability.

For feature freeze we mean not touching anything that's not broken. Major changes in the architecture is one of the things we would avoid.

As for the future (post release), sure we are open for ideas. We always are. It's just a matter of timing. ;)

    Again, 100% agreed.

Maybe I misinterpreted Broceliande, but he seemed to give a different message, saying that the Program table and Gentle.NET are the way to go for the foreseeable future.

But in the meantime, what about my suggestion of having a TVE3 plugin which just copies the epg infos once per day or so?
Such a plugin is no big task and would increase the number of potential testers not to forget: you don't have to change YOUR architecture and we don't have to change anything on our side.
Also having the infos twice/ in 2 dbs is not perfect but shouldn't be a problem as far as hd space is regarded;)

I think this is the best approach.

I'm ended building a windows scheduling task to drop the tvguide.xml file in the TVScheduler folder once a day. :(

For a first integration step would be far better to automate EPG import from TVE3 to TVScheduler. No big job for no one, no architecture changing for no one. And, better, making room and time for talking and discussions about full integration / architecture changing / whatever.

    My two cents ;)

By the time I upload the next version I'll add the synchronization feature to my TVE3 plugin :)

Sweet, please keep the best communication between each other it is the only way to achieve the best result! Maybe the WebEPG project should work together with this project? Isn't that a logical idea? I could be wrong though, maybe James could join the discusion...

    The more the merrier :)

Or alternatively, feel free to fill me in on WebEPG. The TvScheduler API is perfectly suited for use from an ASP.NET application, making it fairly easy to develop a web-based EPG for it.

The best thing to do would be to write a ScheduleDirect plugin that talks to TvScheduler, which should be easy enough when you base it on the TVE3 plugin. You can check out the source to the tvmovie/clickfinder plugin I uploaded a couple of days ago as an example of how that one feeds the guide data to TvScheduler.

Do you have any experience with MediaPortal GUI plugins? It would be great if you could work on a new scheduling GUI for example, inspired by what the Management Console itself does, but then more aimed towards HTPC use, usable with a remote control. Because that's still an important part that's missing. The management console is great for low-level access to TvScheduler, but the real GUI should really be in MediaPortal itself.

No I haven't done anything with the MP GUI before.
I'll play around this weekend with the clickfinder plugin and MP GUI plugins / skins to see what's invloved.
Sounds like a nice little Saturday.

Cool! Perhaps you could take the existing TV Guide screen as a start, and then make that talk to TvScheduler instead of directly into the TVE3 database? I thought of doing this myself, but I've been far too busy with TvScheduler itself.

Let me know if you need anything from me!

    I think I've found a little bug.

With TV Scheduler Management Console on a different computer (I've not tried on the mediacenter) I've clicked "Open" on a tv show in the "Recorded Programs - Overview" tab: notepad is launched trying to load the video file.... obviously it doesn't work ;)
