    Hi dvdfreak,

I would like to setup a system with TV3E on one machine and MP and TVScheduler on another. I intend to have the MP client in standby when it is not in use and wake on user inputs or Wake-on-Lan.

In order for me to understand if this could work I am wondering if it is TVScheduler service or the TV3E plugin that initiates the update between TVScheduler and TV3E? If it is the TV3E plugin that initiate the synchronization then it may wake up my client PC all the time, but if it is the TVScheduler service then the update will only happen when the client is awake.

Can you shed some light on this?

    Thanks

    /Peter

It is the TVE3 plugin. TV Scheduler itself currently knows nothing about TVE3 even being there (but this will change in future versions...).

But why don't you install TV Scheduler, TVE3 and obviously the TVE3 plugin all on the same machine? And then only install the management console on your second PC. That sounds like the easiest and also the cleanest solution.

Additionally you can then also use Web Access (which you would probably also install on the same machine as TV Scheduler itself, altough you could install it on your second machine too if you really want to).

Thanks, I may need to consider this. However, I may also want to keep the TVserver PC as clean as possible for various reasons.

How often will the TV3E plugin sync with TVScheduler?

The syncing is done quite often, every 30 seconds. Not that actual data is copied every 30 seconds, but there's a check that runs often to see if schedules need to be created/deleted.

I can understand you want to keep your server clean, but given that you have a server it's just very logical to install TV Scheduler there as well since that's the ideal place for it, it's been designed to run on a server :)

No release date no, sorry. Actually, we're thinking about using some private beta testing first before releasing the new version to a wider audience, because the changes to support recorder/tuners plugins can use some decent testing :)

Using an external system to do the actual recording shows us that part of the challenge will be to try to keep things as robust as possible since you don't always have full control over what such a plugin does. If the external system is flaky or doesn't always respond as expected we'd like to make it so TV Scheduler can deal with these problems, log them and continue...

By the way, aside from the recorder/tuner plugins with conflict management and all, the new version will also have some other small enhancements:

    • ByDirector and WithActor rules are now much more flexible and will also match partial names.
    • Added DoesNotContain rules for title, episiode and description. Can be entered in the UI like this: "Simpson;-Lisa" (minus sign).
So if you use "Cruise Tom" or "Tom Cruise" this will both work. Also "Samual Jackson" will match "Samuel L. Jackson". You could even use "Sam Jackson" :)

The "minus rule" allows you to narrow down the results. "CSI;-Miami" for example would match all CSIs, but will exclude the Miami ones.

Also, for conflict management it will be possible to control the way TV Scheduler will combine consecutive programs. There will be several settings: Always combine consecutive programs or only combine them when no free recording card was found. And it will be possible to only combine consecutive programs if they are on the same channel.

    Hi dvdfreak,
I've not tried your prog. so far, but I would like to know this:
Is it possible to NOT record e.g. Series episodes that are already recorded, or eliminate double recordings when planning automatically? e.g. based on the description or episode title?

    cheers

Yes, TV Scheduler keeps a history of the episodes it already recorded for a schedule (if there is no episode title a unique checksum of the description is used). So double showings will not be recorded twice if you click "New episodes only" when setting up your schedule :)
