foxtel setup (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,
Ive been using MP for a while now and its been great.
On the weekend i got foxtel installed with their standard STB and now i want to incorporate foxtel into my MP PC.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to do this? Do i need any additional hardware/software?

Ideally i would like to be able to select channels from the epg and flick straight to that foxtel channel.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

You'll need an anolog capture card (I use PVR150) through the SVideo connection. So for this you'll probably need the scart adapter if your foxtel is the same as mine. Otherwise you could easily still use the composite connection - up to you.
For changing the channels you'll need a blaster of some sorts. I use USBUIRT on one of my machines and an MCE Remote with blaster on another. They both do the same thing but I've had more trouble with the USBUIRT in the past. I'd say go for the MCE remote which you can pick up online for around AU$50.

Excuse my ignorance but do all MCE remortes come with the blaster? I am assuming the IRblaster is just an infra-red transceiver of some type that you stick onto the IR port on the foxtel box to enable you to change channels from the media portal pc, is that right?

I have seen a few mce remotes on ebay but they all seem to come only with an IR receiver. Where do i get one of these remotes with the IRblaster for a decent price?

I got mine a little while ago, and it came with two "buds", one of which you connect to the receiver. This bud is pointed at your STB IR receiver to change channels. Mind you, I didn't get it off eBay, so you'd have to check that before you buy it.

So you press a button on the remote, the signal gets passed to the receiver, which then, in turn, passes it on to the bud. The bud then trasmits to your STB IR receiver to change the channel.

The couple I've just looked at on ebay seem okay but there are two different types of remotes (at least). I'm not sure what the difference is apart from the placement of the buttons. The newer one has the 4 coloured buttons along the bottom.

When you look at the photos of the reciever you can see the numbers 1 and 2 either side of the USB cable. This is where the supplied blasters are plugged into. I'd expect any of the brand new purchases to include them but as squidina said for ebay you'll need to check with the seller.

For the prices I'm seeing on ebay you might as well buy brand new. Try staticICE for a search of national prices.

I've just bought a PVR150 (mce edition) and I have a scart to s-video connection from foxtel digital to the tuner. I'm not sure how I go about tuning the foxtel channels in MP, autotune in MP setup doesn't seem do it.

I've searched this forum for hint or bit I've come up empty, could somebody give me a pointer please.

You'll need something to change the channels on the foxtel box as your computer can't do it without the use of a blaster (like the MCE ones mentioned above). Once you've done that you may need something like this plugin that you can then use to blast the MP channel requests to to STB. Don't quote me on that as it's now been a little while since I've done the full setup (I mean you may not even need the plugin as MP may do the blasting control natively - can't quite remember).

Can the blasters be bought separately? I cant seem to find any info on them coming with the MCE remotes anywhere. I have even called a few suppliers and retail outlets in melbourne to find out what comes with the remotes and no one seems to know what the blasters are. As far as i can tell the package includes the remote and a USB IR port

Thanks Paranoid, I'm happy to pay you for it. I just cant seem to find them here. Just got off the phone with another supplier and they told me the controls only come with the control and IR receiver.

Let me know how you want to send it and i'll send you some money.

Just out of curiosity, what interface do the blasters have? is it just a standard usb connection?
