Hi,

Ive been trying for weeks now to get my tv server to work correctly. I think its the tv server and not the clients as i have 3 clients all differently specced with the same problem. Ive also tried every codec i could and none work, xp and windows 7.

So, my problem is I get stuttering on every single station, dvb-t or dvb-s2. Its more like the audio is stuttering than the video. buts a continuous stutter every second. Its only live tv that stutters, videos and music do not.

Also worth noting, all HD channels do not play at all.
Any help is appreciated



Update 1: I've checked the performance of the hard drives and Im getting 380MB rad and 250MB read. which as for as I have read, is very fast. So its not the hard disks.

I'll have a look. But the setup works perfect in dvb viewer

UPDATE:

All devices are running in USB 2 mode.
I have enabled the shift + 1 button and heres a sample of what im getting.

vmr9 = 21.71 average
avg fps = 25.03 average
sync = 0
drawn = between 1 & 27
dropped = 0 & 1 (mainly 0)
jitter = between 0 & 23
the line moving across the screen moves smoothly for a second then stops and moves again.

i had a similar problem with a

"new" DVB-S2 PCI card from MSI - which wasn't a real PCI card.
(was strange couse in my xp-device-manager i found a HUB - but didn't had one installed )
after some investigation in the www - i found out that MSI
put on a USB-HUB-chip on the PCB - and also the Layout of an USB-DVB-S2 stick

the chip was mounted as USB2 -
but it always stuttert and i didn't made it running smooth.
after two days of testing - i brought it back and changed it for a Sky-Star.

so i don't have anymore ideas for your stutter problem.

Ive notice that the PEAK DVB-T is a usb device. Crafty way of thinking i suppose.

Another test ive tried out today.
I installed dvb viewer and scan all stations, both the dvb-t and dvb-s2 worked perfectly. I then setup and run the dvbserver app. Installed a second copy of dvbviewer on my client pc and setup the network client, and that worked flawlessly. All HD stations included.

So as for as I can tell my tv server setup and my client have working hardware and drivers.

Can any1 help me? I really want to use mediaportal.

I did see this, but didnt try it due to my disk performance being way above average (3ware 9650 with 4 x 1.5gb samsungs). Will probably try it tonight though.

Hi smurfster.

I don't use XP any more, so am not in a great position to help. But might I suggest a quick test to assist with troubleshooting, should you have the time and wherewithal (don't give up just yet!):

Basically try using your TV Server as a single seat unit and see what playback results you get, hence completely ruling out any network and/or client issues. I've seen the same issue on some clients as you mentioned (dropping 1 frame every second). For me this was caused by windows 7 services and software and purely by trial and error, removing unwanted software and disabling unneeded services on my clients fixed this. Without knowing your clients' hardware specs it's impossible to know if they're the cause of your problem or not.

Basically, I suspect 1 dropped frame per second could be caused by network traffic, broadcasting, or software activity - something along those lines.

Also, have you tried setting MediaPortal's priority to "High" on your clients?
