MediaPortal Version: Latest (as of 12 March 2011)
MediaPortal Skin: StreamedMP-1.4.11.2543
Windows Version: Windows 7 Pro
CPU Type: Intel i530
HDD: WD 2Tb Green
Memory: 4Gb
Motherboard: Asus something or other
Video Card: None
Video Card Driver: ?
Sound Card: None
Sound Card AC3: ?
Sound Card Driver: ?
1. TV Card: No TV stuff attached
MPEG2 Video Codec: ?
MPEG2 Audio Codec: ?
h.264 Video Codec: ?
I have just installed Media Portal as XBMC wasn't doing what I wanted.
Seemed great from the screenshorts, fairly easy, lots of configurable options. However there seems to be something wrong already.
1) When navigating around the (StreamedMP) skin, pressing anything or moving my mouse makes the menu return to the "TV Series" option. Highly annoying, but a cure I guess would be to delete, then add the skin again.
2) When adding a lot of tracks to the database (Config > Videos > Video Database); I sometimes get that windows error box "it has caused an exception", either quit or continue is available. Not sure what is causing this or how to show a (useful) log here other than:
Seems especially prone to this when adding a large series such as Lost.
3) The look-up for **** info seems to be not great at best. Seems it can't find the movie A Walk to Remember though Amazon, even though the film is clearly there. Some other films are the same. There doesn't seem to be a way to show an IMDB ID or point it to the right film (the drop down box in the videos bit of the congif suggests films that aren't it).
I use Media Center Master to grab all the info which has worked without error since I started using it.
4) When actually getting into the software, it takes rather a long time to load. Less than 20 seconds, but more than 10.
5) Pretty much all the video files say they cannot play. Yet other software can play them. VLC is installed on the computer and can play all the files. Again, no cluses as to why, just that it can't.
Sorry for being a bit blunt and basic.
I spent a couple of days customizing XBMC to find adding files to it's database isn't simple (no simple dialog) and seems to be hidden, even in the default skin. So I move onto another one, but that is even worse. Then find this, to see it's seems great but again, has lots of seamingly unknown errors. Finally I try Media Browser, but that doesn't have the level of customization I requre.
The only customizing I want to do is change the "home menu" options to say: Documentry, TV Series, Entertainment and Movies and each one of those open the corresponding folder on the hard drive. Sounds simple, but from a computer savvy person, even I find it difficult. I also want to delete the "Music", "TV" and "Pictures" menu options as I will never need these (although this can be done in the home xml file, I can look at this later.
Can anyone help with the above?
