Hi all,

I'm now running mythtv, but I have some problems due to driver issues and I'm thinking of switching to Mediaportal. I have some questions that I would like to be answered before I spent a few days installing and configuring windows and MP and to see at the end that it's missing some functionality. I searched the documentation and mailing lists but couldn't find an answer.

Is it possible to define different recording settings for series. I'm gonna explain it. My wife is a big fan of 'Bold and the beautiful' but she forgets sometimes to watch. I record it now every day but keep only the last 3 episodes. Is she at home, she watches it on tv, but it's recorded anyway. Otherwise she can watch it later.
But some series I would like to keep all episodes, so I need different settings on each tv show. It this possible in MP? And can you set some 'auto expire' option so it deletes automatically the eldest recordings so I don't have to monitor diskspace usage.

I noticed there is also a web interface. Can it run over https and be secured by a password?

MP has to run or it won't record. Is there anything to monitor MP and start it if necessary? Just in case the new tv engine is not stable enough;-)

That's all for the moment.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Yes it's possible to tell individual series to "keep" x number of episodes before deleting them. It's also possible to specify preset quality settings for each, like "portable, low, medium, best" etc. And you can specify those settings in the configuration. When you go to record a show from the program guide, go to Advanced Record instead of just "record". These options are in there.

The web interface is rather old at the moment and isn't really overall compatible with the latest version of MP. There's a massive thread here in the forums regarding future development of the web interface. I used the mp-web interface back when it was up to date, and it did have password protection. No https though.

Personally I use UVNC (ultra VNC) to control the PVR remotely, and that works great.

Currently MP does have to be running to record. There is nothing to monitor MP to make sure it records except for yourself. You can however minimize it to the tray if you use the computer for other things.

The TV Engine plays a large part in the future of MP. I've tried it out for a while, and it has a lot of potential. With that installed, you don't need to have the MP client software open in order to record television shows. It's in early early testing right now though, so bugs are abound.

Hope that answers your questions!
Hope MP works out better for you than your experience with Myth did.
