Hi...thanks for looking, and I hope you can help.

I have had a good long look online for help to resolve my issues, but ended up here begging for scraps. I'm hoping for some advice that is understandable. I can't find anything online that would be understood by anyone but programmers and database engineers.

I have already installed and uninstalled MP1.11 several dozen times...having to learn MySQL to do it. It worked, but kept dying for no reason. I had to install SQL separate, because the included version wouldn't install to Win 8 properly.

I installed/uninstalled/etc MP2 and realised I'd have to install the plugins. There are two sets of plugins with one instruction.
First I 'installed':
SlimTV-NativeTV-10th_AE_Update1_refresh
then:
SlimTV-MPExtended-10th_AE_Update1
Following the sparse instructions, I levered the files in. Still no joy using the tv.

My issues are these:
Why isn't the TV working?
What appropriate log file do I include with this request?

It sounds like you're not running the installer with admin privileges (and therefore the installer is prevented from doing things it needs to do)... or you have security software that is screwing with the install. If you're doing things correctly, you should not have to "learn MySQL"/"install SQL separate".

For now I wouldn't recommend MP2 for somebody who is new to MediaPortal in general. The instructions and support for MP2 are sparse because it is alpha-quality software (a work in progress). Most people using MP2 have used MP1 for years and are helping to iron out the kinks so that the community can shift over from MP1 to MP2 in future... but it isn't there yet.

I can't tell from the information provided.

What appropriate log file do I include with this request?

If you insist on sticking with MP2, then you'll at least need to post the MP2 server log.
