Just an update for you guys. I went out and got a 7750 Black Edition today and put it into my HTPC. I first used it with the 9500GT in there and noticed that DVD playback was the same as before so I took it out and went back to the 8200 IGP and OMG the picture quality is amazing. I am now getting super smooth playback of SDTV/DVD/AVI/MKV with the only problem existing now HDTV channels which go normal speed for a second then really fast then normal speed then really fast. The audio does not do this only the video I am not sure why. If I can solve this one problem my HTPC build will be fully complete.
I should also note that my heat concerns with the 7750 BE are gone now as I realised when installing it that all this time my CPU cooler fan had been installed in the wrong direction and was sucking air out of the cooler instead of sucking air into it (silly mistake on my part). All I have to do now is get these HD channels working and I will be sooooo happy
I´d be interested it overclocking the HT link would help in that case. I am running a 4850e, too.
Even it might not be the best solution to overclock the ht link by 100% i wonder if it would work.
Guess the driver will not "use the features" even if you oc the ht link.
Did anyone ever tried it or read about it?
Very interesting thread. I too have the M3N78-EM board (8300) with the latest Nvidia Video drivers 182.5 and 15.24 MB drivers. I get acceptable TV and DVD image quality with 720P or 1080i ATSC HDTV in NA.
I am using the SAF 3.47 filter/codec and MP1.01
If I try to enable Hardware accel in the codec (PDVD9) it introduces “judder” in fast pans and zooms.
I had not contemplated it being processor limited as the utilization I have observed has been reasonable at 50%
The processor is a 4850e and I disabled CnC per this post but observed no change. I also updated the MB BIOS to the latest from ASUS. I would love to be able to do a bandwidth analysis from end to end on this image pipeline. We need to understand where the bottlenecks are and adjust based on data.
I also had the "judder" problem and the 7750 BE without a doubt improved the situation (all testing done with HA on). Since MP 1.02 I have noticed some new decoder settings and I am now using PDVD codec instead of the default windows one as they seem to provide the same image quality with more smoothness particularly with DVDs.
Still my only problem remains that I cannot get HA working with HD channels (I don't know if the IGP is just not fast enough).
Hi, what are using to decode the HD Channels? And which OS are u using? PDVD works for me Version 8/9 with HA - although I did have some trouble with 9 at some stage and had to go back to 8 - but I can't remember what the issue was. I'm running on 9 in 1.0.2. I also have the BE, so maybe something else is wrong - codecs are such fiddly things!
I have been using vista x64 and tried both MS mpeg2 decoder and PDVD. Im about to do a clean install as I have been playing around lots trying things out and will just put vista x86 on this time around and report back my results. Im so close to having it working I can feel it
I have had issues with my 8300 chipset, especially when playing 1080p movies with DXVA in MP. Had lots of dropped frames even when OC'd and CnQ turned off. One of the crucial factors where the image enhancement sliders in Nvidia's control panel. I had to turn them all off when playing 1080p. But even then, some movies did stutter and dropped a lot of frames.
Yeah, I have read somewhere that that the sliders don't work too well and require too much GPU Processing power that the 8300 GPU can handle @ 1080P (these are very processing intensive). I never use them and just have that box ticked which says leave it up to the video player - all my mkv 720p/1080p files plays really, really well.
Also, Just a reminder don't forget to change your RES for TV to 50hz for 25hz PAL or 60hz for NTSC - makes a huge difference to smoothness of the image.
