Geforce ti 4200 (1 Viewer)

Hallo

I have a motherboard, with onboard Extreme Graphics.
But it is a Directx 6.1 card, and MP 0.2.3/1.0.0 using 100% CPU (P4 1,8 Socket 478)

Can a Geforce ti 4200 (128MB) AGP 8X do the trick?
- Geforce ti 4200 is a Direcxt 8.1 card, but vill 9.0 run on it???

With DX9 installed and a DX9 driver set, you should still be able to run it on a Ti4200 but the DX9 goodies (stuff in DX9 that isn't in 8.1) will run in software.

That is my understanding on how DX works. So make sure you are running DX9 compliant nvidia display drivers and have DX9 installed on your machine and you should be sweet.

But if I replace the onboard with a card what support DX 8.1 (also 9.0c installed), will the graphicscard do more of the job, or will i be the same as now?


Requirements for MP is DX9!!!


If i'm using other software, mytheatre, there is no problem - even whit the DX 6.1 onboard card!

If you don't try, you will not know, people have had MP running with a MX440 and the ti4200 is a more powerful card.

There's no guarantee whether it will or won't work, but for older setups a seperate graphics card will always be far superior than onboard.

As Ray says, you'd expect the CPU requirements to be lower with the Ti4200. I believe AMD has some onboard chipsets now that are quite fast e.g. AMD 780G chipset. That platform would need lower CPU requirements!

When testing with low end gfx, try to use different skins. From what I remember, SimpleMP is the best choice for (to) low-end computers.

Also: There are many onboard gfx w/DX9 support; nvidi 6xx0-series and higher and ATi X300/x1250/g690-series and higher.

I've previously run MP with a ti4200 (think with a Sempron 2400 CPU) and the performance wasn't too bad, it was certainly usable and while I wouldn't say it was blazingly fast I never really noticed any significant slowdowns either.
