Gigabit connection required? (1 Viewer)

Hello all,

I have three dedicated HTPCs running MP. Recently I also started using MP as a TV application.
Now, my tv recordings play fine on two of these machines, but on the third there is stuttering all over the place. It seemsed to me like the image wasn't getting properly deinterlaced or something, so I have been fiddling around with different graphics cards and drivers, but to no avail.

Now I believe I have found the cause of the problem. The stuttering machine only has a 100Mbps network card onboard, the other two have 1000Mbps cards. If I swap one of the two working machines to a 100Mbps switch instead of my Gigabit switch they exhibit the same stuttering...

Surely a Gigabit connection isn't really needed to play a simple tv recording, albeit HD?
I can play full bit rate BD rips easily without any problems on the 'stutter machine'..

Does anyone have any experience with this?
I could of course go out and buy a separate 1000Mbps network card and a new switch but wanted to know if anyone else is having this same problem before spending any money..

Thanks,
Danny

Thank you for your reply Vasilich,
I have started up MP following the instructions and then let the recording play for a few minutes..

lot of continuity errors.
As i used 100Mbit in the past and never had such problems, i guess thah you have problems not because of using 100MBit itself, but rahter because of some problems with your 100Mb switch or communication 100Mb switch <-> 1Gb switch.
Try to use another 100Mb switch (borrow one for testing), preferrably of other manufacturer, or try to connect your PC with 100Mb network card directly to 1Gb switch.

I have already tried all the things that you suggested, but it didn't help.
But the good news is, I ran out of patience this morning and bought myself a Gigabit LAN card.
Result: problem solved!

For now I am happy with not knowing what actually caused the problem. Maybe someday I'll figure it out.
Only need to get me a switch with more ports now..

Thanks everybody for your suggestions!
