    Thank you smokewatcher.

I heated the garden shed abit .... so I was able to spray the backplate in a silverish tint.
    Just a small update.

The company which produces the front and top wrote me, they'll ship it around April 14th.
Meanwhile there just a few things to do.

    - drill 4 holes for the fan
    - cut the plexi for the vfd-display unit
    - drill some goles for the top and front

that's it so far. good n8.

hi rtv, thanks. how did the Antec guys know?... :D

it's weekend and time for an update...

Today I built the hdd cage for the 2.5" hdd.( Samsung 250GB)
I took a flat piece of aluminum ( the same kind I used for the fins) and bent it in the brake accordingly to my sketch.

The intention is to fasten the whole thing by means of a modified slot bracket. Here are the laid out parts for it.

Then, after the drilling, filing, bending, drinking ;) riveting and countersunk it looks like this.

Here the reverse view. As you see, there's space for another 2.5" hdd... :dremel:

    And that's yet mounted...

    koc2008041208hddcageinbur3.jpg

And there was time to mount the fan onto the copperplate after drilling and cutting the M3 threads for it.

    Well, that's it for today....

it's lunchtime an I have a few minutes to post some progress

hoooray, the cnc milled pro parts came in yesterday. Nice Package. As I opened the box this came up.
They did'nt wrapped it in silk paper or bubble foil....no on a cardboard with a foil...
    koc20080415millpartseg9.jpg

So I was curious whether all fit nicely. I then started abit of drilling an threading to fit the front on the auxiliary front plate holder...yes. all fine :)

    koc20080415assembledfroeo1.jpg

    took a picture...
    koc20080415frontassemblsa7.jpg

bent the mesh so that it is plane with the top
    koc20080415meshbentuh0.jpg

and put it all together for a mockup...

You really should start a Mediacenter-customs services or something. This looks real cool! :)

Simply amazing work! do you have experiance with this kind of material?
Would it be wise for me to try something like it, when I have never done any metal cutting/solding?
Or would a start with wood be a better place to start?

    thank you ThaClown.:)

    expierence...I'd say:yes ;)
except for the 4mm alloy, coz it's a must to have good tools for such material. the top and the front where made by a company with a pro cnc milling machine. I could'nt do that at this high quality.

all other, thinner material can be managed with simple tools. if you have a drilling machine, a dremel and a scroll saw...I'd say yes. A bit of patience is needed when filing and sandpaper work has to be done. but that is the finish and the hardest part.

Yes, you can do that with a bit of imagination and rigourous accuracy. go on and give it a try.
