I've not had this problem in previous versions.

Now, when mediaportal is started, the green button (which i use so dearly) is getting honked by XP Media Center, autostarting it automatically over Mediaportal!

I've googled for ways to turn this off in MCE but with no results...

Any ideas?

IIRC there are many ways to do this - the only one that comes to mind, though, is using IR Server Suite.

Could never rename the ehome directory, but i solved my issues by doing this (disabling them as services):

    Click START
    Select ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS
    Select SERVICES
From the NAME column, double click MEDIA CENTER RECEIVER SERVICE
From the STARTUP TYPE drop down list, select DISABLED
    Click APPLY
    Click OK
    Close the SERVICES window
Continue below if you would like to disable the MEDIA CENTER SCHEDULER [recommended], otherwise restart your computer
    DISABLING MEDIA CENTER SCHEDULER

From the NAME column, double click MEDIA CENTER SCHEDULER
Right Click on it and select PROPERTIES
From the STARTUP TYPE drop down list, select DISABLED
    Click APPLY
    Click OK
    Restart your computer
