Hi,

I just had to uninstall and re-install Media Portal due to some unknown error. When I go into 'TV-Server Configuration' it says 'TV service not started, would you like to start' so I went Yes, but nothing happens after that.

I get this error;

also, is it possible to use Media Portal with an external USB DVB-S tuner? how would i configure it?

    Hi!
Due to many improper/poor bugreports I will delete this thread if you do not follow the guidelines. So please, give it a shot :D
How to start a support or bugreport thread:
    1. Choose a meaningful title for your thread.
    2. Report only one problem per thread.
    3. At the moment you start a new thread in the support forums, the hardwarespecification template will be added automatically. If the template is empty, then you have not filled out your specifications in the usercp yet.
Note: Your report MUST include a complete hardwarespecification!
    4. Add a detailed, step by step description of your problem.
    5. If your problem occurs inside MediaPortal or the configuration program, then run the "MediaPortal Logs Collector" from your Windows Start Menu (Team MediaPortal/MediaPortal) and ATTACH the exported log.zip file to your thread/post.
Without logs it is IMPOSSIBLE for us to help you!

To create clean and conclusive logs you should use the "MediaPortal Debug" shortcut which will start MediaPortal in a special debug mode. Then you reproduce the issue and close MediaPortal. A log.zip will be created automatically which you then attach to your thread/post
If you are using the TV-Server and it is installed on a different PC, then you have to attach its logs by hand.
To do that open your Windows StartMenu and click at "TV-Server Logs Folder" in Team MediaPortal/TV-Server.
Attach all these files to your thread/post.
    6. Do NOT copy/paste your logfiles (or large parts of them) in your post.
Please note that support threads, which are missing the required information posted above will not be processed and maybe also deleted.
    :D

--- PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT THIS MESSAGE ---
Logs and system specs should always be added - just in case

PS: No problem using USB devices. Works in same way as any other ;)

    Hi there,

I remember I had the same problem. Then I've browsed some post in this forum and found solution which helped me. There was one post where I found that it is needed to delete some SQL DB's that has been left from last install and then install MP again. It helped me... I've tried to find this post, but I didn't succeeded. I hope the same "smart guy" would find your post and give you the link :)

Sorry, will make sure to search next time. Tried that Windows Defender fix, it worked once, then the error comes up again.

I'm so glad I'm still on XP :)

I think you're probably right. I recently did do a "dummy spit" on XP after I'd spent weeks chasing up a stuttering problem to eventually find that it was caused by XP's having, without any warning, locked out DMA on the disk I was recording & timeshifting on.

I installed Vista and found that MP also runs into another set of problems. It took a while to find elegent solutions to (e.g.) disabling Vista UAC and Media Centre and I'm starting to worry about what I've missed. The MP wiki:s seem to be all focussed on XP - probably is a need for one addressing Vista installation.
