Having a little trouble with a fresh MP install. Hangs at initialising directX on startup.

XP Pro
Mediaportal 1.2.3
ATI Catalyst 12.4

Intel Atom Motherboard (POV MB-D510)
ATI 5450
1gb PC6400

I've updated direct X and got the latest catalyst suite.

Any ideas?

DirectX suggests GPU, GPU driver or OS related issues.
    Logs?

Let me know if you need full logs, but this is the line with the error. Had a play with the startup settings and in alternative splash screen mode, this line from the log pops up in an error window.

D3D: Exception: This sample cannot run in a desktop window with the current display settings. Please change your desktop settings to a 16- or 32-bit display mode and re-run this sample. MediaPortal at MediaPortal.D3DApp.ChooseInitialSettings() at MediaPortal.D3DApp.CreateGraphicsSample()

I'm running 32bit in windows and CC, and have tried dropping it down and back up.

    Okay

Have you installed the prerequisites for XP:
    https://www.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal/requirements

Check the "system components" and "required updates" mini-sections at the bottom. There is a DirectX requirement there that I suspect is not installed. If you think it is, open the start menu, click "run", type dxdiag, and check that there are no problems with DirectX on your system.
