Hardware Cable TV card (1 Viewer)

I am looking around for a cable tv card but finding it difficult to find a supplier in the uk to buy it from, can anybody help?

I don't have digital in my area and I dont want to update my aerial until my changeover (2012!!! tell me about it). I don't want to install a sky dish also. I do have the cable in my new house.

Could you use the cable without any subscription to a provider, eg virgin media. i could just get the free channels???

If you have cable in your new house it will be digital, so you will need a DVB-C card. They aren't easy to find, the only one i can think of right now is the FireDTV-C or FloppyDTV-C.

I don't know if Virgin Media have any channels available without a subscription card. I actually don't think they do to be honest.

Virgin Media afaik could be decrypted with appropriate CAM and subscription card using the cards mentioned above.

what sort of CAM can decrypt the channels, and would i need a subscription card as well, if so where do i get one of those?

So it is possible to run virgin media and all channels through mediaportal? will the channel guide also be available?

Yes via T-Rex 4.6 (aparently) and the guide you'll have to import from xml.
Their EPG is proprietary.
