Hi,

In the near future I'm building my first HTPC ( as many of you ).
But I need some hardware advise to continue selling my hardware.

First: My requirements
  1. Stylish case, wish fits with my other components
  2. HDMI connection for main output to LCD (HD ready)
  3. Optical connection for main receiver (5.1 ouput, DD, DTS, AC3, ...)
  4. Able to play HD content (Bluray rips, 720p, 1080i, ... )
  5. Very silent system (like a notebook)
  6. Doesn't need very much of hd space because everything is saved on a mainserver
  7. I have a Logitech Harmony remote ... will if work ?

Second: My chosen hardware

  1. Case: Antec Fusion V2 mAtx
  2. Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H
  3. CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (S775, 2x2.0GHz, 2MB, 800MHz FSB, Boxed)
  4. Memory: Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G
  5. Harddisk: Samsung SpinPoint T166, 500GB (7200rpm, SATA II, 16MB, NCQ)
  6. DVD-R: Samsung SH-S183A 18x (Dual-layer, SATA, Zwart)

Third: Still looking for hardware ...

  • A decent analog tv-tuner card.
  • A silent replacement cooler for the CPU
  • Other hardware I need to fullfill my requirements ?

Leave your comments, experiences, choises, ... behind! The more information I have, to better I can understand what's important ...

As for an analog TV card have a look at the ones from Hauppauge, there very good and are the best supported in MP, a lot of the devs have these cards...There are different types, the main difference is the number of tuners it has (1,2,hybrid)

Will we ever be able (near future) to see digital television like analog television in Belgium?
I mean every channel we get now standard from our cable company on the analog cable from digital cable without subcription or smartcard?

When pigs fly...:)

Belgium and digital progression do not go a long very well. The day we can get something like digital DVB-C we can use on a computer would be the happiest day of my live...Then I can finally have a decent quality TV signal...

Blame Telenet/Belgacom for this!!

Aight, ... the best is to get a very good analog tv-card, dual tuner to do some timeshifting or record 2 programs at the same time ... I'll look at the hauppauge series ... do I need an MCE ? Or what does it mean ... including a remote ?

Sometimes that means a remote is included, but only if it is an MCE kit. I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE Bulk which does not have a remote.

The PVR-500 is a good dual tuner, which also comes in a MCE kit (with remote)
