Hauppauge HD-PVR (and Colossus) Setup Question (1 Viewer)

I'd like to setup the HD-PVR, but from what I can tell, I have to use (and purchase) schedules direct. (I'm in the US). Is this true? I don't see another way to get the device to record/add channels.

Can I just setup the device using one of the other tvguide plugins? I've used mc2xml/xmltv with other cards successfully, and would like to continue with that setup.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello and welcome SusieQT :)

I'd like to setup the HD-PVR, but from what I can tell, I have to use (and purchase) schedules direct. (I'm in the US). Is this true? I don't see another way to get the device to record/add channels.
    No that is not true.
    SchedulesDirect has two uses:
    1. Creating channels.
    2. EPG
Both things can be done without SchedulesDirect. SD just makes things easier.
In the past I thought it was possible to use the SD trial to do the channel creation, then switch to mc2xml for EPG.

Can I just setup the device using one of the other tvguide plugins? I've used mc2xml/xmltv with other cards successfully, and would like to continue with that setup.
You can certainly use mc2xml with our XMLTV plugin. That covers the question of EPG.

    Regarding the creation of channels...
If you want to do that, I'd suggest the following approach:
    1. Use the "add s-video channels" button in the "scan" section to add one channel for each input on the HD-PVR.
    2. Go to the TV Channels section.
    3. Select the first channel, click "edit", enter a channel number for a test channel in the channel number box.
    4. Select the tuning detail row in the bottom area and click "edit", [again] enter the channel number in the top channel number box and select the correct video and audio sources according to the details in this post, then click OK and OK.
    5. Use preview to confirm the channel works.
    6. Delete all the channels.
    7. Use the import/export section to export your channels and channel groups.
    8. Open the XML file in any text editor (eg. notepad++, notepad etc.).
    9. Copy and paste the "<channel >...</channel>" section for each channel in your STB and:
    • set channel.IdChannel (this should be unique - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.)
    • set channel.DisplayName (the name you want to see shown for the channel)
    • set channel.ChannelNumber (the channel number you want to use for the channel)
    • delete the <mappings>...</mappings> section
    • set tune.IdChannel (match channel.IdChannel)
    • set tune.IdTuningDetail (this should be unique, it would be simplest to just match channel.IdChannel)
    • set tune.ChannelNumber (the channel number that will be used for blasting to your set-top-box)
    1. Delete the test channel in TV Server configuration.
    2. Use the import/export section to import the file as edited.
    3. Use the TV Channels TV Mapping subsection to link the channels to the HD-PVR: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...Server_Configuration/03_TV_Channels/2_Mapping
After this you set up blasting, EPG and everything else.

    Hope that helps,
    mm
