I am thinking about getting one of these cards to replace by current TT s2-3200 card and have a couple of questions for anyone who has one of these.

The plan would be to use DVB-S/S2 and DVB-T tuners, question is can this card support use of both of these simultaneously or can only one of it's tuners be active at aynone time?

Is anyone using this card in this configuration?

Thanks

Trevor

Hi Trevor

I have a pair of WinTV HVR-4000s (as well as a WinTV PVR-500) in my HTPC running on Vista x86 with TVE 3 (they previously all ran fine in XP Pro SP2).

I am only currently using DVB-S (for UK Free to Air Satellite). The cards pick up all the FTA channels fine from Astra 2 28.2E including BBC HD (which is currently DVB-S but may change to DVB-S2 in future) and Eurobird 1 28.5E using a minidish and dual LNB.

In a couple of months I am hoping to move house (if it all goes through OK) and I should also be able to get Freeview there so I will be able to use the DVB-T side of the cards.

Hauppauge market the HVR-4000 as quad mode rather than quad tuner. I believe there may only be 2 tuners, the DVB-S/S2 one and the DVB-T/analogue one.

My understanding from the Hauppage forums is that you cannot use DVB-S/S2, DVB-T and analogue simultaneously. I think someone tried using two separate applications to access DVB-S and DVB-T and they could get the sound and picture on one but only the sound on the other.

In the TVE3 you should be able to define the card as a hybrid card which means that TVE3 will know it can only use one of the 3 tuners that show up at one time. I while ago there were reports this was not working correctly and I am not sure if it has been fixed.

It does appear as 3 separate tuners in TVE3 which is why you have to define it as a hybrid card or TVE3 will think it can use all 3 at once, which it can't. Because I only use DVB-S at present I have DVB-T and analogue disabled.

Hopefully, when I move, I will be able to use DVB-S/S2 and DVB-T using the hybrid settings as it is annoying at the moment that I have to use the PVR-500 for Channel 4 and Five (as they are not FTA on satellite at present) and the picture on these is not great (whereas the DVB-S is).
