I tried finding a solution on the forum but all I found was people having similar issues

so here it goes

I'm running MediaPortal on an old amd 2400XP
on windows xp Home
I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 with the non MCE remote and IR blaster
Nvidia AGP GeForce 6200 128mb ram

I installed everything as per the guides that I found on the site, installed all updates, used the latest driver version for all my hardware, and I installed MediaPortal 1.01

Everything was perfect and ran fine for about 4 days then 3 days ago on startup my remote was not working, when I exit the MediaPortal interface I get the following error "there was an error with HcwHelper the application will be closed"
if I click on details this is what I get:

EventType : clr20r3 P1 : hcwhelper.exe P2 : 1.0.1.40055
P3 : 49dfb6df P4 : hcwhelper P5 : 1.0.1.40055 P6 : 49dfb6df
P7 : 2 P8 : 2a P9 : system.nullreferenceexception

I also noted that I get and .NET Runtime 2.0 Error in my application log in event viewer that contains:

Source .NET Runtime 2.0 Error
Event ID 5000

EventType clr20r3, P1 hcwhelper.exe, P2 1.0.1.40055, P3 49dfb6df, P4 hcwhelper, P5 1.0.1.40055, P6 49dfb6df, P7 2, P8 2a, P9 system.nullreferenceexception, P10 NIL.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the IR32 application from the Hauppauge driver disk but there was no improvement

so after two days trying to find a solution, I got fed up and bought what I thought was a fully compatibe Hauppauge MC remote controll kit (model 226), from their website:
Easy installation under Windows Vista Premium and Ultimate or Windows XP Media Center Edition!

According to their website and posts from this forum it would work perfectly with windows xp and needed no drivers :(.
I should have read the small print on the box that states under system requrements:
Microsoft Media Center Compatible PC with Microsoft Windows Vista Mediacenter Installed

I tried all the drivers I could find on the internet for the MC remote kit, that gets detected as a eHome Infrared Transceiver, but obviously this must be a new version that has no windows xp compatible drivers(JUST MY LUCK!)

so if anybody out there has a solution to get at least one remote working I will be eternally grateful!

Thaks for pointing it out, in the meantime I managed to get the old one working again by cleaning the system with the cleaning utility available on the hauppauge disk and reinstalling everything. Next time it stops working (3-4 days? :D) I will try your system:D

I found a solution for the Hauppauge MC remote kit that is detected as an ehome infrared transceiver

so the problem appears to be xp home, it installs fine under xp pro, to get it to work under xp home do the following:

Download the Windows Update "Update Rollup 2 for eHome Infrared Receiver for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB912024)" from microsoft. It is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en.

Run the downloaded executable. When the Hotfix install wizard appears on the screen it will tell you that you have sp3 already installed etc etc do not close the window.

Run notepad, and open the file named kb912024.log that is located in your windows system directory (usually c:\windows\).

On the fourth line of this file you will find the path to the update executable (ie: c:\0d5602f37f532d2198a162164df6\update\update.exe).

Open Windows and navigate to (ie: c:\0d5602f37f532d2198a162164df6). inside you will find a number of folders and files, from the "SP2QFE" folder, copy irbus.sys and from the "ip" folder copy irbus.inf .

once you copied these two files to a safe location go back to the Hotfix install wizard and select CANCEL.

now plugin your receiver and when asked for the driver point it to the place where you saved the two files, enjoy!
