The reason I am asking is because of the USB interface. I don't have any more PCI express slots free. Its on old socket 771 dual quad server and I am running it as a back end server with xbmc front end. So far I have pvr-150 capture cards and they work great would like HD capture as well. I know hauppage sells hdpvr USB but I have read that they have lots of heat issues and lock up. I have no issues with the pvr-150 cards capture on s-video and usb-uirt IRD. I know they are very old but hey they work really well and the display on my tablet works pretty good its not HD like my HD home run but hey I had them around so I used them.

Looking for a hardware capture that is USB interface this way don't have to worry about slots if I want to add more down the road. This unit seems to have it all but have not even seen 1 review on youtube. I have the star tech USB sound box and it works great no need for PCI express slot and the sound is great.

Any feedback, advise would be good.

Does anybody know if this device is supported in media portal.
    Yep, it is not supported.

Please have a read in our wiki:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_..._System/01_Supported_TV_Cards#Supported_Cards

The Hauppauge Colossus and HD PVR video capture devices. TV Server also supports capture inputs on cards with analog tuners, however other capture cards without tuners are not supported.

In other words, your PVR-150's only work because they have a tuner on board. For any other "pure" capture device... with MP it is currently HD-PVR, Colossus, or nothing.

So even though I am not using the tuner part of the pvr-150 it is supported because it has a tuner. I am only using the capture part of the card mainly for live TV.
So if a bda driver was developed for this device then it should be supported, is that correct.

    Correct.

    Yep, understood.

BDA stands for "broadcast driver architecture". It is a framework used for supporting hardware that receives broadcast signals (ie. tuners). Other DirectShow interfaces are used for capture devices. In other words, you wouldn't create a BDA driver for a capture device - it doesn't make sense in technical terms.

Here's the thing: MP was not designed to support capture cards. The fact that a few are supported and that capture inputs on tuners will often work is because those features were relatively easy to implement. Adding general support for capture cards is much more difficult. As tough as this might be (and as sorry as I am to have to say it), your choices really are as listed above: tuner with capture inputs on board, or the Hauppauge HD-PVR or Colossus.

I see thanks for the in dept explanation. I just had wish happauge made a quad port card like TBS does with their TBS 6985. There are some of us that don't have lots of free PCI express slots as my last one was used up for my TBS 6985. That's why I was looking for a USB solution unless I change my motherboard again.

That would be one huge card. :)

There is already a patch for MP 1.5 PR over here:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...twork-mediaportal-and-me.121130/#post-1022060

I can make no firm commitment of support in future or ongoing support for the patch... but it will certainly be considered.

Looks promising, I will either get the hdpvr2 or the next version of the colossus. I figure the card is almost 3 years old already and I am sure hauppage will release a new card since Xbox one will be out soon. Hopefully the new card can do all encoding on hardware like the old pvr-150. If I can get the current colossus for a cheap price I will pick up 2 of them and switch out my motherboard. As for my old pvr-150's they are running well just can't watch any HD on it.

I went ahead and bought 1 hdpvr2 for testing. I really want to go by the USB route as it does not limit me in how many I want to use and I don't need to change my setup for a long time. Does your patch work with 1.4 as well or must I have to upgrade to 1.5
This unit needs to be officially supported when version 1.5 final gets released as I'm sure there are others that would want this as well.
