I’ve got an HDHomeRun that I’m trying to get working with MP and I’m not having much luck. Signal strength is good and all channels work as expected in the HDHomeRun QuickTV app. Here are the channels in my area:

If I set “MediaPortal” as the application in the HDHR set up, the tuners show up in MP TV Server, but scanning yields “no signal” for all channels. I’ve tried every type of QAM frequencies from the dropdown and many other combinations of tuner settings in MP with no luck.

I am able to get it to find channels if I set the application to “ATSC/Remap” in HDHR set up, but it doesn’t find any of the HD channels, just the SD ones. Of course, this won’t work.

I’m at a loss. If anyone has some advice, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

    Hi Scott

Could you please post your logs so I can check them out?

Also, can you confirm whether the HD channels are listed in the QuickTV app. I note that the HD channels are ATSC over-the-air channels, so you would need to have the HDHomeRun hooked up to an aerial and scan with "tune QAM instead of ATSC" unticked.

I can confirm the HDHomeRun works great tuning OTA locals and an antenna, for me. I'll second mm's position in that you don't want the QAM box checked (in TV-Server) which will then perform the ATSC OTA scan you want! Or are you trying to use your cable provider's input? One more thing: be sure you're on MP 1.2.1 (which has a Win 7 update and sets the default to STOP in the tuner settings).

Thanks for the responses. Sorry for the confusion. I wasn’t clear. I am NOT doing OTA, I’m doing clear QAM from Comcast cable here in Seattle.

    Logs attached.

    Hi again rockstar1971

Please could you double check that one or both of the tuners are configured as cable tuners in HDHomeRun Setup. If that is done then please also try to use the ATSC network provider instead of the generic one in the tuner properties -->here<-- (preferred network provider). You want to disable ATSC remap and enable the option for inserting PSIP (C-VCT).

Thanks mm. Yes, I have both tuners set to Digital Cable in the HDHomeRun setup. I have the Main Application dropdown set to MediaPortal. When you say "enable the option for inserting PSIP (C-VCT).", I assume you mean the "Virtual Channel Table Mode" dropdown on the Advanced tab? That was set to "Auto". Changing it to "Inject TVCT" made no difference.

In MediaPortal, I switched the Preferred network provider back to "Genric". I've tried just about every combination of settings in MediaPortal and I still get "no signal" in red on every channel when I scan. Any other thoughts?

Let's take a step back, you do know the HDHomeRun tunes ClearQAM channels, not encrypted channels from a cable source, right? When you said "all" channels worked in the QuickTV were these the HD ones you can't get via MediaPortal or just the SD ones as well? I don't mean to insult you, but I'm at a loss as to why the HDHomeRun would differentiate between SD & HD channels assuming they're all ClearQAM. That said, without a CableCard and the HDHomeRun Prime you should be able to tune your local broadcasters channels (regardless if they're in SD or HD) in ClearCAM but not HD programming like ESPN-HD, TBS-HD, ESPN2-HD.

Given the fact that the HDHomeRun has no analog tuner, when you scanned and actually GOT channels it's fair to say you were doing ClearQAM. Whether or not any other settings would yeild channels I'm not able to say, but what's an example of a couple channels you did receive and what are a couple obvious HD channels you feel were missing? Now you said all of these were tuning and displaying under QuickTV, right?

I wish I could be of some assistance, but I do not have a cable hook-up, and I have the older model dualHDHR.

I noticed in your Line-up link that there are 4 different lists of cable channels available (qam256). I see that you have 47 channels available OTA (8vsb), then 85, 79, 60 and 90 channels in the separate qam256 lists. Do you know which listing you have?

I do see several HD channels listed that you should be getting in each of the qam256 lists (local broadcast channels). These should all be clearQAM. I also see a few non-local channels like Food Network and Animal Planet that are part of special packages offered, but I see a few ON-DEMAND channels and a bunch of UNKNOWN, too. I don't know how those should be handled by the HDHR.

Your Lineup is very confusing. You should be getting, at the very least, all the local broadcast channels, includeing the HD ones, that the cable company is required to offer.
