AW: HELP! DigitalDevices S2 only no discontinues outside the case :-(

    Oh man DVB-S kills me.

OK i "fixed" this by putting a lot of rubber tape inside the case and around the cards. Now the signal quality is good (80-95%) BUT only if i don't stop tuning any channel. When i stop tuning i loose my whole signal quality in 5-15 minutes. If i start tuning again i get 0% signal quality but i just have to wait for 10-20 minutes and i've again 95% what's that ?! I can't believe that it is normal that i've to wait 15min before i can watch tv :-(

    Hi there,

15 minutes is not normal - its normally 18 minutes! ;)

I'm not sure what could be causing it, unless there is some sort of build up of voltage, either some form of inductance, or capacitive charge somewhere.

And it is happening to both cards? What happens if you only use one card?

Can you clearly detail how you have the cards installed when "not in the case". I assume you have the mobo on a bench/table, with the cards plugged into this, with the PSU sat next to it all plugged into the various connectors?

If so, it might be worth trying to link the PSU case to the card brackets and see if that affects it.

    Thanks,

    J.

It does sound like some weird magnetic interference or a build up of static. How close is the card to the PSU? A good PSU should be quite well shielded, but if it's a cheap one that came with the case it might not be.

It's probably unlikely but check the coaxial cable connector. Could it be at a slightly different angle when your running it outside your case? (ie loose/bad connection).

has the CineS2 in any case to be plugged to Power over Floppy-Cable? Mine works without too... or should i plug Power on the Card anyway?

    Hi,

    i've this one:
DuoFlex S2 miniPCIe - Digital Devices Distribution UG (haftungsbeschränkt)

so there is just ONE minipcie card / bridge / controller and the real cards are just connected to the minipcie through an extra cable. So it is just easy to let the card's hang outside the case. But the case signalquality problem is "solved" with the rubber tape. So this one is an additional issue.

My case hase an included PSU which i cannot remove / change. It is a chenbro es34069 case:
    Chenbro Micom Co., Ltd.
    or some more pictures

OK, it takes 20 min without any tuning then i've no signal. When i then try to tune again you can watch the raise of the signal quality from 0 to 80% every 10s or so it get's more and more. In the beginning it starts flapping between 0 and 33 and then it get's higher and higher on tuner1. Then when tuner 1 reaches the max. it starts to raise on tuner2.

It takes 10 min then it is full signal again.

still nobody an idea? Could it be that the output voltage or power is too low for my LNB?

    Hi there

This is one ***strange*** problem
Since you have to isolate the card for it to partially work, there is clearly a grounding issue.
    - I wonder if the case is charged somehow - maybe one of the motherboard screws is outside an earth pad? Check that the DC and AC voltage on the case is 0V with a multimeter.
    - Alternatively, the cabling could be dodgy - loose/bad cable connector creating a small short from the inner conductor to the outer conductor. What type of connectors are on your cables - screwed on, pre-made, or crimped? Try another cable if you can.

How powerful is the power supply (eg. 400W)?

    Hi there,

As I said, my money is on a bad earth (floating earth) - this will have a few mV on it. The PSU earth/shield will be connected to the case, and in turn the bracket for the card, and hence the screen from the LNB.

All attributing to interefence and your problem

    J.

Have already trief another external Power supply. No change. The actual one has 120w and the one I tested 300w both should be enough without a graphiccard and stuff like that.

How can I measure actual mV with a multimeter? Not sure how it works.

What is about giving the LNB power from extern? Is this possible? Do i need then a multiswitch or stuff like that to try? I've a Quad-LNB (not Quattro).
