Hello,

the new MP2.3 Version includes a possibility for a WiFi Remote. :)
But i have no experience in this case and need a step by step help what to do that i can use this feature.

I hope i understand the term Wifi-Remote right.
Cause i want to use my Smartphone or Tablet as a Remote for MediaPortal.

Now i need to know following things.

  1. What is to be configered on the MP2 Server or Client?
  2. What is to be configered on the Windows 10?
  3. What is to be configered on the Router?
  4. Which App do i need or workes fine?
  5. Anything els what is to be consider?

And one question more, does the remote works on all Clients or only on one configured Client?

Best Regards

That's the idea. Basically it has the same functionality as the MP1 version but dependency on MP2Extended was removed and that functionality replaced with new API. That new API part is not described anywhere yet but if anybody shows interest in developing something for it, I will document it.
What is to be configered on the MP2 Server or Client?
You have to set it up on the clients in the settings:
    • Authentication method:
      • None - No authentication needed
      • User & password - Login as user created in MP2
      • Passcode - Login by pascode. Kinda like an API key
      • Both - Any of the 2 mentioned above
    • Auto login timeout - How long the remote can stay connected without requiring login again
    • Enable bonjour - Easier discovery but requires bonjour to be installed
    • Passcode - The passcode to use passcode authentication
    • Port - The port the remote should connect to
What is to be configered on the Windows 10?
Installation of bonjour service if bonjour discovery is supported/needed by the remote.
What is to be configered on the Router?
The port you want the remote to connect to needs to be accessible.
Which App do i need or workes fine?
I don't think there is any in active development anymore. You might be lucky to get some of the existing ones to work partially but to get full functionality you would have to wait until a developer decides to develop an app.
And one question more, does the remote works on all Clients or only on one configured Client?
You can connect to any client with the remote but probably only one at a time depending on the app.

Can i use the same port like my NAS?
I only have a little experience with networks and routers.

That means i don't know which port i should use and if i can use one port for two devices.

Ok i only need a Remote App which use Bonjour-Service right?
For Fullsupport i must wait for new development.

It quite seems to be easy, hope i can configure it this weekend on my single seat for testing.

    Thank you!

Yes Phone/Tablet and MP2 are in the same Network.
Then it is enough, when i allow in the windows firewall the same port for these devices.

I think i must try out and see. :)
