Help getting TV Guide (1 Viewer)

Having trouble getting the whole thing working properly. I can get cable input up and see channels on the screen, but am unable to get the TV guide data. My system is analog TV tuner, and so I think that means the TV guide in digital cable signal cannot be read.... so I used the WEBEPG plugin. I say digital cable but not sure what that really means. On my home flatscreen TV's I can watch some channels in analog or some form of digital (not 1080p tho, I have the cheap cable). In the TV Server configuration tool I tried to import TV guide and it says it manually grabbed 61 channels worth of data for 2 weeks. But when I go to TV and select TV guide I get nothing! What am I doing wrong?

Okay so first, which channels are you looking at in the TV guide - do none have data? You're using WebEPG so I guess that is generating and XMLTV file which you import. The XMLTV configuration is described very well in our wiki -->here<--...

Just as a stab in the dark (because I'm not entirely clear on your setup): if you're piping the output from a cable box into MP through an analog tuner and expecting that you can add the EPG to MP and change channels on the cable box with the cable box remote (ie. only have one channel in MP) then I'm afraid you're going to be sorely disappointed. Well, I should be clear. It would definitely work, but you would need to create one channel in TV Server configuration for each channel in your cable box, and that might be quite tedious...

I'm also a newcomer to MediaPortal. I recently setup the guide data with no problems, but I went with the SchedulesDirect plugin. I had the guide data up and running in just a few minutes. I used Steven's setup guide to configure the plugin and had zero issues. SchedulesDirect does cost $20 per year, but it might be worth it for a hassle-free setup. There is a 7 day free trial to give it a test drive.

I dont know how things are where you are but here, the economy is the worst it has ever been in my lifetime. Unemployment is through the roof and the government is spending like a drunken sailor so as for me, ever $20 is going to things needed. That is why I am using Over the Air HD for FREE and record with Media Center for FREE and get my EPG for FREE. Notice the theme? Besides, there should really be a way to get the info via the net for free. I bet some smart Open Source Guru could figure out a way.

The only thing that you're missing from a MediaPortal solution is the free EPG, and apparently mc2xml can give you that. You can even get the equivalent of the WMC guide data for a one time donation. If you insist on a free solution then I suggest you try it, although be warned that you get what you pay for. Many people have commented that it is not nearly as easy to set up as SD.
