    Hi ocnos

As soon as another filter is "added", which may be necessary to play your files, then it automatically switches to software decoding, without totally compliant files there is no way around this with the current dxva setup within windows.

    :sorry:

I use MPC-HC as an external player and MP to browse my movies.

I just tried to also enable hardware acceleration but it does not work out (i have a 780g board with catalyst 8.8 driver)

    i am running MP RC1
i have both the CoreAVC codec and PowerDVD 7.3
    i changed a 720p mkv file of mine to 4.1 with IDC-Change
i have vista and run EVR

    the problem:
    1. in the Movies Section i set CoreAVC as h264 renderer and use the internal player. result: everything works fine but nor hardware acceleration, even not the 720p mkv file i changed with IDC-Change

    2. in the Movies Section i set Cyberlink h264/AVC decoder as h264 renderer and use the internal player. result: everything works fine but no hardware acceleration. and only the 720p mkv file with the changed IDC does not play, i have a black screen instead.

can anyone who has also a 780g mainboard and runs mkv with hardware acceleration please tell me what their settings are in MP? what resolution do you have? i am running my tv at 1920x1080p at 50hz

would be happy to hear any advice ;)

    best,

    kian

    Hi Kian,

What I did is to try to get HA working outside MP. If you manage to do that, you will probably have no problems in MP.

Try using the HC (Home Cinema) edition of Media Player Classic. Try setting the EVR renderer, and play a MKV. Right clicking in the movie, check that in "filters" section appears Cyberlink (I haven't tried CoreAVC so I can't tell if it works). If Cyberlink doesn't appear, it means that another filter is in use for h264, and you will have to uninstall it or set Cyberlink as your preferred decoder for HD.

If Cyberlink codec appears, you can check the "use HA" option and everything should work! Your CPU should stay at 2-3% usage.

My problem was that whatever postprocessing filter that you have active (like vsfilter for displaying subtitles) will disable HA.

Also, keep in mind that some MKVs may not accept HA, but in my case it worked with almost everyone of them.

CoreAVC is a software only codec is does not (currently) use HA for decoding (It can use it for some de-interlacing)... You might also want to try PDVD8, also try with and without Aero enabled...
